Weld in a tube isn't real welding.

Good eye! I did not see that option when I clicked the link. Level of effort on the repair remains the same as it's a cutting/grinding/welding job, but likely that solution will last longer than the factory stamped steel.

I didn't see the option to include the frame-side piece and thought it was just a bolt-on. You're right -- that should do the trick after cutting/grinding/welding it into place.

    I'm sorry, I call bullshit.
Now, how did you REALLY crack the motor mounts?

    UPDATE

Finally got into to see Toyota. They first said there's no cracked frame. But they let me come into the mechanic bay and show them. Two large cracks, on each side of the passenger side motor mount.
Both mechanic and service rep were smart enough not to say Toyota will own this, but it was obvious they thought they would.
They investigated my truck pretty throughly, looking for evidence of it being in an accident or extreme off roading. They stated, it was a very clean truck with no evidence of any misuse. Said it's pretty easy to see in the under carriage if it's been off roaded a lot, and there was nothing on my truck.

When the service rep and the manager had to tell me that Toyota says 'these cracks are normal wear and tear', I could tell they didn't believe it at all. They said, according to Toyota, just driving on washboard roads could cause these cracks.

So, I will appeal to Toyota, and bad mouth them everywhere I possibly can. Any suggestions for how to approach corporate Toyota woud be appreciated.

Oh, and they gave me an estimate of $16,000 to replace the frame!

Reminder: 2017 Tacoma Sport model 66,000 miles.

I would look into the best ways to interact with and manage Toyota corporate since I think that’s where the responsibility seems to lie at this point, even if they don’t think so at this time. Having a frame crack and call it normal, wear and tear on a seven year old vehicle with 60+ thousand miles is really bullshit. I think there’s corrosion, paint warranty is that last longer than that.

I’ve had friends lose fights, with Toyota corporate initially only to win later when they figured out how to deal with them.

It’s not a completely different motor, just the heads are very different. The block is almost identical. The frame is interchangeable between 2 & 3 G. The suggested solution should work just fine. Weld the cracks, and then weld on the reinforcement gussets.

    Update #2

Toyota corporate said warranty has expired, not covered. BUT, they now have me bringing it in to a different dealer and they are going to have a corporate mechanic there to look at it. Might not lead to anything, but I think this is progress.

here's the pic again. I also sent this pic to DMZ Fab, hoping to get their opinion on this.

Hold off on the bad mouthing, give them an honest chance to make it right.

I believe a very polite and perhaps slightly incredulous approach -- "...I am so shocked this would happen..."

Also with an undercurrent of "I'm sure since this is so unusual you (corporate) will make it right for me".

If from your first contact you are polite and act as you genuinely expect them to help people are more inclined to actually help you.

Does an extended warranty cover "normal wear and tear" as Toyota put it?

That sucks. Looks similar to what I had happen to my Gen1. But I believe I know where and how that happened. Turned a slight corner off road, doing about 20. Came around corner to have sun right in my eyes. Started to slow, but too late. Hit a deep rut I never saw, about the width and depth of a tire. Truck hit that damn thing, bounced out, then died. Started right back up, inspected, didn't see anything, and went on about my hunt.

The way it hit, I'm lucky the entire front end didn't fall off. Hardest hit I've ever experienced. Ended up breaking a tab on the frame motor mount, but that was it. I was super impressed nothing worse happened. That was a horrendous hit.

Good lord. That makes me want to crawl out and get under my truck, just to verify mine is not cracked.

@sierragrl I hope Toyota takes care of this for you. This is definitely an exception to lack of warranty.
