Toyota fixed their problem on the motors built after '00 by getting rid of the cast manifold (which is prone to cracking) by installing a mini tube header of sorts. I bought an OEM manifold for an '02 and installed it on my '98 motor .... but I haven't dropped the rebuilt motor in my truck yet so I don't have any miles on the new set up .... I'm still waiting for my TB to be bored out before dropping it in the tacoma

Mines been cracked exactly in the same spot ever since I've owned the tuck. Never caused me any problems. If I ever find a great deal on an aftermarket header I might swap it out hoping to get a little more efficiency.

Thats a really good idea, is the late model header plug and play with the same EGR port, or did you have to mod it?

You can totally weld that. To answer your question it is enough to make the truck act up. Ask your buddies if they got a welder and pay them. It would be better than the alternative.
