Probably the wood put a lot of stress on that spot when he drove over a bump in the road.

That shit won't fly on a lease. Especially when it looks like someone dropped a 24" oak stump from a height of 87 feet.

I guess, but that area has pretty good support under it as the bed bolt and tie down are right there.

1st gen bed with its flimsy sheetmetal would've gotten a noticeable dent there. SMC bed material is well proven now with 15 years of service history.

I'd get an estimate on repair vs replace, that could be a simple fix. Mine needed a new bed..but mine had a large tree limb fall on it hard enough to dent the hell out of the left rear quarter and tear the fiberglass side

I'd repair it... small grinder bit on a dremel, cut out the bad spots, and get some loose fiber fiberglass, and some resin, and black gel coat.. lay in a few layers of glass mat, and resin, then let it set up, then add a layer of gell coat (thick so it stands above the surface, then use a sander drum to take it down to the rest of the bed dimensions.. and rough up with some heavy grit paper... it'll look factory.. top it off with a misting of clear coat, and blend to the rest of the bed... $50 and fixed...
