Actually you guys should try to warranty it by placing the stock grille back in.

Then just say you are unsure how it cracked

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.
Sorry to see that happen it was most likely an all of the above factor. The steel will not shrink like plastic and at the extreme Temps you were at plastic gets brittle. And having a sheet of ice on the front would surly have an effect of the plastic as well.

Not this. The ice would have to be between the grille and surround and completely contained.

    This.

Guys like that have pulled into dealerships I've worked at. We used to pay extra attention to them (Honda "ricer/ tuners") especially if they've got lots of aftermarket mods to the car, and let's just say unless they've had a good repertoire in past service records, the tech and SA would know it's BS and call the customer out on it.

A steel grille like that (with over-pressure fit issues) would have obvious stress and install "scratch" marks on the plastic indicating someone has messed with it.
I suggest anyone not try this as @facefirst suggested. Some people think it's warranty work and it's extra money, but warranty gets paid 1/2 the time of CP (customer pay) work orders for someone's else's BS.

I don't know if I'd use this thread to make the decision to not get one of these grills.

I'm betting there are hundreds of these out on the road. Two people have posted broken ones (one of them sub-zero temps with 1/2" of ice on the front). This isn't really like factory Toyota issues where a lot of them don't get posted here. If this was a huge problem you'd see way more posts about it.

@erok81, yes you are right. What I should have said was that I was torn between this grill and the pro grill. The crack is just something I never considered. I'm sure these issues don't happen often but I just want to avoid it. Now if the prices were similar, I'd still go with the bamf. Those things make the truck look mean! :)

Those appear to go for $600 plus shipping, with a minimum 3-month waiting period and 20% cancellation fee. Then, if the grill surround cracks, at least another $300 for replacement.

That Pro grill appears like a valid alternative option.

Sorry to bump an old thread but I wanted to add mine to the list of affected.

It's been super cold up here for a few weeks now. No ice buildup at all on mine though. Just one day it cracked. I've had my BAMF grille in for about 6 months.

Sounds like it is the BAMF grille + low temps that is doing the cracking. Not seeing this on any stock grilles.

BAMF grille is one of the best looking grilles available, I will not buy one because of the cracking concern. I feel bad for all who have broken trim.

I joined the cracked grill surround club this morning. I figured I was ok since it hadn't cracked by now. Fuuuuuuuuq. I would definitely not suggest a BAMF grill if you live in cold areas.

Interesting how it is always the same spot too. Well, guess I will have to fork out $400 for a surround. Definitely will be ditching this grill when I do so I can hopefully get back some money.

For sure. Plastic heats/shrinks in temp change.. And with beefy grill it's not going to give. Another reason could be the BAMF is a reallly tight fit to the factory surround. I think if they designed it with ~1/16" gap all the way around it might be ok.

    Probably doesn’t matter.

I had a BAMF grill and it never made it on the truck. During the install with the plastic surround the fit was so shitty I knew just by trying to install it that it would create too much stress on the plastic. Sold it the same day.
