    Everyone,
So I was tightening my new pcv valve and when I got to the end, I heard a small pop noise. Lord and behold I noticed a small crack just below the pcv valve. It is tiny but I am worried. Can I use jb weld to repair this crack since it is small?

It's worth a shot, the valve cover is likely damaged.

So cram as much jb weld in, thread in the pcv, then after it cures, run it and see if there's a vacuum leak from the crack.

The crack is under the pcv valve, it didn't even affect the actual pcv and threading. Would I be able to drive for a day and fix after work?

I don't see why not, just be aware it may leak some oil and/or vacuum and/or set an engine light if it is leaking vacuum.

In that case, I'll apply the jb weld tomorrow after work. Thanks for the input.

    I have not replaced mine?
But I think a lot of PCV are NPT tapered thread?
I bet that’s what did, the tighter you crank on it, the more you are “wedging” the hole open in the valve cover. About park plug tight is good enough for me on PCV.

Basically, once you JB weld it. Don’t crank it down again:thumbsup:

BTW, don’t feel bad man. We all make mistakes.
Who knows, maybe your cover was weak?

Hell yeah. Jb weld. The fix all for all who touch tools.

Kinda like my young niece, who thinks tape fixes everything. So anytime something breaks, she says tape. Or when she walks in the room and says tape, we know she broke something.

Everyone, I cleaned the area and then applied the jb weld using a cotton swab. It should hold up well.

It's the coating under the valve

Then don't overtighten it and look up the torque spec.

It probably doesn't even have to be threaded in all the way.

It's not under pressure or submerged in oil.

This may give you an opportunity to buy more valve covers and waste money if you want them custom powder coated a different color.
For mine I simply cleaned them when installing cam gears + new gasket; didn't paint, they still look stock silver
Red or something might look nice, but then it would also try and make the engine look powerful when it is not

Some guys wrap the threads in Teflon tape.
If I were to use anything, I’d use thread sealer. NOT Thread Locker.
Mostly because that’s what I have here at home already.
Tighten it just snug and let it sit for a few hours.
Remember, a little goes a long ways.

thread sealant is better than teflon tape because it's liquid

teflon tape is for installing shower heads

I agree, that’s why I said, “If I were to use anything, it would be sealer.”
And that’s IF, I never have in the past.

Thread tape in an Oil System can be bad. It can stop up oil passages.

I think in very few applications is it even ever recommended
-certain engine oil pans/covers with sealing surfaces where bolts must be coated in something even blue loctite to keep oil from leaking via threads
-roof rack bolts, going into body holes atop the roof to prevent water from leaking in

About the only time I’ve used it was on bolts going through coolant jackets.
Other than that, mostly air line fittings.
