because I’m a fucking idiot, and too impatient to read people’s long winded write ups.

How concerned should I be. I already backed the bolts back out about a turn or more.

Yes, that would be awesome. Looks like I need to get this done now. Can’t just keep tightening the bolts anymore.

Replace it. It is easy enough to replace and that crack is sucking in unmetered air creating a vacuum leak. Not only that, it can, and will expand in time to become a larger crack.

If you are just going to be tightening bolts, that's fine, but you have to understand where the proper point to stop needs to be.

I just cross referenced the part numbers and it’s the same part number.
Pm me and we can work something out if you want.

Yeah I know. I searched for valve cover torque, harder to find than I thought... ended up on some write up on T4R, saw 13 ft lbs in a giant sentence and went with it. That was the last bolt too. After doing that, I subsequently loosened all of the bolts, thank god I didn’t pop a head off of one.

A valve cover doesn't really need torque values to be honest with you. I've been installing valve cover gaskets on different vehicles for YEARS without ever checking torque spec on any of them. Leak free across the board.

It's just understanding the limits of the hardware.

That bolt is no longer properly securing the valve cover so it will leak anywhere near there from under the gasket, that and an entry point for dirt/water

Generally not a good thing to have a cracked anything, I’d replace it ASAP, sucks because that’s the one under the plenum.

When you say too lazy to read a write up, did you just do your valve cover gaskets?

Over-torquing will over-compress the gaskets and make them fail sooner, or the absolute worst thing that could happen is shear a bolt off in the head, then you’re fucked.

Don’t bother with a write up if you’re too lazy, just google the torque specs, but come on man, anything worth doing is worth doing right.

I just wanted to torque them down, been leaking. I torqued once a few years ago... I recall it being easier to find torque specs before. I was going to do all this shit at 200k.. guess I'll have to do it early. And just in time for christmas. Fucking murphy's law. No time to do shit.

I feel you man, I just did 300,000 service and did the valve cover gaskets and a bunch of other shit. Installed a spark plug tube gasket backwards then fucked it up pulling it out. I had to put it back together so I could drive it and of course it leaked, had to pull it all apart and do it again, fucking bitch.

Did you get a window? If it’s the same as a 4runner I have one of them too. Hahha.

It’s real bad. Like my buddies joke and give me bolts and shit and I save em, then when they break on the trail and I give them their bolts back I give them shit for not saving it’ll being prepared.

I got another starter from Advance. Lifetime warranty apparently only applies once. After you get a second one, it's only 90 days.

Which is fine. This is fine.
