Typical price to replace? 2018 TRD Sport... salt from a salt truck pelted my windshield and chipped it. Then the chip spread the ENTIRE length of the windshield.

    What's the best replacement?

Check your insurance, it may be covered at no/minimum cost.

I went with an independent auto glass shop that used the same manufacturer as OEM.

I paid $100 per my insurance.

$340 out of pocket for me. Used a local company and did not get the sensors recalibrated. Recalibration is usually what costs the most and isn't typically needed.

I've heard of Safelite and dealers charging north of $900 because they insist on recalibration.

    $1k deductible for comprehensive? :der:

Hell, even $500 is too much imo.

Safelite says over $800 including calibration. I think I'll try to skip that part

Pardon my ignorance... but recalibration of what? All the TSS gizmos in the rearview?

It will be harder to know as you did not state your locality but the prices will likely vary greatly. New OE windshield with any appropriate re-calibration is $1,200 CAD up here in Alberta, Canada. I bought coverage through the dealership for $1,000 which covers 4 windshield replacements which I have already used once. I paid around $350 for an aftermarket windshield on my 2016 so the coverage through the dealership is still worth it to me.

*Update* I just got a quote out of curiosity from my local glass shop which is known as being the cheapest and they're now $575.90 CAD including re-calibration.

Everyone always says this but I checked with my insurance and do not have any sort of glass coverage, so it would be $1000 per the deductible. Are you guys adding glass/windshield coverage separately or do you all just have badass insurance companies? I'm using Geico but probably need to switch. Who are you using?

I've gotten an over $800 quote from safelite, and another local shop quoted around $550. I'm holding out until I find something under $500.

Apparently only some states have glass coverage you can add. Progressive mentions adding it in my settings but you can't.

In Missouri, insurance covers the entire cost of replacement...no deductible. So it is free to replace.

State Farm for 25+ years. I don't have my policy/coverage statement in front of me, but I don't recall purchasing separate windshield coverage.

bug deflector, which is 60 bucks, can prevent some lightweight road debris from hitting the windshield, it's worth it if you can live with that

Ended up finding a local shop. They'll replace if for $270 out the door. He said he's never had to recalibrate anything in his career from a windshield crack.

My insurance company is USAA. The replacement of my windshield cost me nothing at Safelite. They insisted they had to do the calibration. Since it didn't cost me, I didn't care.

The crack has nothing to do with re-calibration. It has to do with the sensor being removed and reinstalled on the new windshield. I do however agree that they often don't require a re-calibration. Plus some shops do it just purely from a liability aspect. I do believe Toyota mandates that re-calibration is to be done at replacement. Imagine the fallout if the system was to somehow fail and everyone is pointing their finger at the glass shop who decided to not do it!
