So I put 6112's on my truck at the lowest setting when they came out last year. I'm still very happy with them but this has started bothering me.
It has done this since the install but my OCD is getting the best of me. Only happens occasionally.
Usually at full lock or close to it under somewhat acceleration forwards or reverse something binds up in front suspension, not in drivetrain, then let's go with a very loud pop or crack. I've had the truck in the air turn lock to lock both ways, tried it on the ground best I can and I cannot find where it can be coming from. I thought maybe the sway bar on coils but see no evidence.
Too deep a noise to be a dust shield, almost sounds like something is grabbing then letting go. I can't find wear marks on anything that would be a clue. The coils themselves can't wind up on themselves somehow pop on the bottom flange can they??? I wouldn't think so.Hope you guys can give me some direction in where to look.
If not, I live with it, no biggie I hope. Thanx everyone.

Better late than never. I’m having exact same issue with my 6mo 6112s. Only driver side. I put my chassis ears on truck yesterday and located source of binding pop. It’s from the driver side spring. I’m not sure how to fix. I bought pre assembled from shock surplus. I don’t think it’s defective, just needs some type of adjustment.

Any ideas to fix? I know I can disassemble and reassemble, and even then that may not fix. Looking for ideas….

Sounds like a CV to me. Are you sure it's the suspension doing this?

Yes. I spent 2 hours yesterday using the chassis ears trying different spots. Besides I’ve replaced both front lcas, axles, and wheel bearings at the same time I installed the 6112s.

Check your caster/camber bolts for proper torque. Alignment shops are Famous for not tightening them down to the proper torque. I have experienced this with a 4runner before, symptoms were a suspension pop in the morning in reverse and turn and at other random times while driving. They were not torqued to the 130LB for it. I believe that 3rd Gen Tacoma's are 100LB.

Good suggestion. Here are some of the 3rd gen torque specs for the front end. Hunted them down after trying to get rid of clunking on my setup. Sadly, torquing everything didn’t do it.

Well I put my chassis ears on the front driver side frame mount. I did some more reading here at TW about them causing very similar issues like mine. I was getting a lot of sound from that mount that could easily transmit to the strut spring through the frame. Plus a visual inspection shows mild lack of uniformity between the driver and passenger side.

it looks like replacing the bushings is relatively easy and cheap, so I’ve decided to replace it and see if that helps. It probably needs replacing anyway. My truck is at 190k miles.

Common pop is the lower control arm bolt/nut not being torqued down properly. I have been a victim of that.
