I was once selling a nice wicker chair and table set for basically nothing -- we just wanted to get rid of it. It was a while ago, but I think I have the numbers right: A guy emails, wants to know if I can do better on price (so I say fine and go from $50 to $40). Then the next day he calls and asks were he can pick it up. He lives about 100 miles away and wants to come that weekend so he asks if I can hold it for him. Stupidly I say sure. Three days later, on Friday, he asks if I could meet him halfway. I tell him to go pound sand; there's no way I'm spending half my Saturday and $20 in gas to deliver his $40 furniture set. Seriously, what are these people thinking???

It's not. But it is a Craigslist ad. I didn't know it until right now, but all I've ever wanted is a Toyota fire truck.

If it wouldn't clear out much of our liquid savings, thus causing a small rift in the household...I'd be flying out tomorrow.

That thing is amazing and I should stop looking at it.

i may or may not have emailed the camaro guy...

The car is repairable. It's not damaged to the point it's in repairable. I have 4 as we speak not trying to sell it because it's too much work or I seen something in repairable. I'm just getting rid of the last 2 I have fixed yet.

Hi, i was interested in your camaro. i was wondering if you could clarify this statement from your add. "there is nothing wrong with the car"
it appears to be quite a bit wrong with the car.

Of coarse the owner thinks that everything he did to it that is "just wrong", made an improvement in the car. Looks to me like there was a lot wrong with the car before the wreck.

I was browsing CL and saw a 2005 GTO for $5000, said "READ ENTIRE AD!" Naturally, I had to know what kind of buffoonery would warrant such a statement (and price). So I clicked.

Owner explains it has about 80k on it yada yada looks good, good pics.

Then goes on to explain he took out a title loan and he can't afford to pay it off. "There is no title, there will never be a title. You will NEVER have a title for this car!" Explains that he is hiding the car in his garage so that it doesn't get repossessed, and that you should "only buy it for parts or a track car."

So, basically he is trying to sell a car that doesn't belong to him anymore...#clickThatReportButton

Ad was gone within a few hours.

    My biggest peeves:

"Salvage title due to a minor fender bender" or any variation of this statement. My favorite one was "salvage title due to a rock cracking the windshield on the freeway." Nothing minor happened if it's salvage. If I bought salvage, I would be more willing to buy one that said "salvage due to getting rear ended on the freeway" or something honest. Well...more honest.

"100% stock except..." its always "except exhaust and intake" or "exhaust, headers, intake, and coilovers." Let's be clear...if it has ANY mods, its not "100% stock."

It would be more clear to say "The vehicle has a catback exhaust, but no other mods." Or "the truck has a 3 inch lift and level, but no other mods. The engine, transmission, and differential are OEM."

I like the guys who advertise for car titles. I've been so tempted to send the ads to the secretary of state.

Funny story! There was a great episode of This American Life on NPR a few years ago about people who turn the tables on Nigerian email scammers. These guys managed to convince some scammers in Nigeria to go to on a wild goose chase to some remote village and then into Darfur where there was a civil war going on.

i'd be tempted to call around to the local title loan companies and offer to repo it for a fee... then ask to take it out for a test drive.. .boom... so long sucker

dang it...I should have thought of that... who knows, maybe that's what the repo agent did lol.

Depending on how much the loan was, you could still come out ahead buying it and paying off the loan (if that's even an option). I would bet, however, the loan is pretty steep especially with the missed payment penalties.
