I hate people that list stuff for sale and just ignore phone calls because they are too lazy to delete post after selling.

    Followup to the $1,500 tacoma:

    Third response:

    Hi again,
Right now I'm in a military base. We are training, getting ready for leaving the country. The vehicle is already at our Military Logistic Department form Riverton,Utah, U.S. Military Base crated and ready to go.The delivery process will be managed by me (it's free). I think I can have it there, at your home address within 2-3 working days.It will come with a clear title and reg. I am a member of the eBay buyer protection program and using this service you will get a 5 days testing period after delivery. You will have to send the money to eBay, they will hold it for 5 days (inspection period) and only after you decide that you want to keep it they will release the money to me.During that 5 days testing period I will not be getting any money. I need to know if you are interested so I can ask eBay to send you the details on this deal. If interested please include in your next email your contact info for eBay (full name, shipping address and phone number), so we can get the ball rolling.
Thank you and let me know!

This just reminded me, I had an old Macbook Air listed last summer, and started screwing with people in a similar fashion. Had it listed for $300. Got some scammer asking to have it shipped to NY. I replied with something like "Of course! But for insurance purposes, the price is now $1200."

The chick replied with "Are you scamming me?" I replied with "Well, it only seems fair, since you're doing it to me."

Good gosh! It's hard to believe someone has the time to sit there and type that crap. I wonder what percentage of people actually fall for this?

Of course. They always will say "I'm with special forces so I can't give out that information". You should live at Bragg. You would hear some crazy stories.

Spent part of my youth at Bragg while my old man was stationed there. Kids would tell everyone that their old man was a "go fast guy" and everyone would bag on them when they were caught lying. Pop told us that when people asked us what he did to just say "army shit."

At my college job, one of the coworkers asked our boss if she could borrow $50 to sign up for e-harmony (she had been on match.com with a free profile for while) so she loaned it to her. Following week
Boss: How did the e-harmony go?
Coworker: Its the same ugly m'effers that are on match! wasted your $50 bucks, sorry.

Someone actually tried to scam me on my $25 Shopvac I had listed, said he was out of town but could send a certified check and would send someone to pick it up.

I gave him the name of the Sheriff and the Sheriff's office address to send it to.

Nothing exciting using Craigslist while selling a motorcycle, lawn tractor, TV lift and the kids comic book collection until this gem.

Selling a living room set. Within a hour or so I get the first reply.

    Him - still for sale?
Me - Yes. The set is still available.
Him - Great...what is the present condition, i believe with that i wont be disappointed in buying it from you, what is the zip code for the pick up arrangement and do you have an account with paypal to receive payment?

Of course at this point I am already skeptical

Me - I tell him the condition, small tear in a cushion, clean but could still use a cleaning etc and give my paypal email addy and zip code.

Him - Ok. I will proceed with the payment shortly and keep you informed once i transfer the funds... Thanks..
Him again - Can you please delete the post just for you to assure me you won't sell to another buyer?
Him again minutes later - Just to let you know that i made the Payment, and i got emails from PayPal that the funds are out of my account, kindly go through your inbox or junk mail for notifications and let me know if you got it.... So we can know the next step of action.

I then get three emails from "PayPal". Considering I only ever get one email from Paypal when someone sends me money for an item this already is not right
I wish I could find them and if I do I will edit this. Reading through I find a few misspellings and a request for funds to facilitate the pick up of the furniture. He essentially was sending me $1200 and I was to forward $400 to the folks doing the pick up. Did a source check on the emails and they proved to be sketchy and most likely not Paypal. ;)

I did a quick google on him and the first thing I found posted contained this gem.

I advertised on Craigslist and I received a text from someone named James Scott telling me the price is satisfactory to them, they will mail me a check, arrange a pick up, all with out looking at the item for sale! wHEN i TEXTED back that it's in person cash in hand, they didn't even respond.

    My response was of course

I suggest you pull your funds back as I do not intend to send money out to complete this transaction.
All the best and take care.

Crickets at his end after that.

I would prefer using PayPal, its pretty secure. All I use on eBay and also if a website offers it I always use it too. The only issue I ever had was bought something in a private sale on a forum similar to TacomaWorld. Paid, guy never shipped and never responded to private messages. Filed a claim with PayPal and they refunded my money in like 3 days with no problem. I can only imagine it would be as good for craigslist transactions. A lot of it is common sense too. Talk to the seller/buyer and be real and request using PayPal. Most of these scams are the same, it your spider sense starts to go off, then it is a scam.

I have a car listed on craigslist now for the gf. Posted it 'as is' and noted that it has rust from being a northern car, ac issues and window issues.

Guy emails me similar to what I quoted above, can't find the email now. But it was asking exact condition of the car, he had wasted several trips because people weren't honest with him, however he knew that wouldn't happen with me but just wanted to confirm how the car was. I emailed back and said pretty much same thing as the ad I posted.

What gets me is the people that contact quickly after its posted (less than a few hrs) and ask if it's still available and then never respond anymore.

I have my Spyder lights listed and just got an email from a dude asking if I want to sell the truck. Interesting. Everything is for sale for the right price, amiright?

If he'd be willing to buy for 25% or more over what I paid, should I do it? Ha

I just went and picked up a bed mat for my truck from a guy on craigslist this evening. Guy promptly responded to my emails, no typos or grammatical errors, super chill dude. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna have bad craigslist luck now for the next 7 years or some shit, like when you break a mirror.

Before CL a buddy and I went to this old car-nut's house that was advertising a pile of rare parts on streetracing.org... yes I'm old.

Buddy wanted a set of good GT40 heads. So with cash in hand we rolled out to this dudes ranch. The deal was made on the web for the price with a ton of email/pic traffic between the dude and my friend. While ogling the goodies another guy shows up to buy some tail lights, apparently they were some of the most rare lights out there and oem parts were unicorns.

Obnoxious rich dick walks up and scoffs at the condition of the dudes place, makes some backhanded comments to boot. Seller was unamused.

Dude starts looking over one of the lights, hands it to the seller commenting about the dirty nature of the part, and some scratches on the plastic. He then starts low balling the seller. Seller says they had a deal, and the dude low balls again. Seller just looks the dude over, steps to the work bench, sets the light down, and proceeds to smash the bejesus out of the light with One of those little 2lb sledge hammers.

Dick dude starts yelling, "wtf, why did you do that, do you know what those were, how much they're worth...etc". He is visibly upset about it.

Seller looks at the dick and calmly says... "now, what did we learn" as though talking to a 3yo child.

To this day, we call it the "sledge offer."

I hate low ballers and that seller taught me a lot. In each ad I post it says "...low ballers will be openly mocked." Some don't heed the warning. my favorite negotiating method goes like this.

    Selling price $200
CL nut bag - how about $80
    Me- how about $200
CL nut bag - okay $100
    Me - $220
CL nut bag - wait you went up
Me - its to compensate me for you wasting my time.

I have more CL sale tales, but it's bedtime.

Imagine what the folks that process VA disability claims get to hear... friend of mine (works VA claims processing for the American Legion) told me about one dude recently who claimed he was exposed to Agent Orange while assigned on the Korean DMZ to the "4077th MASH" near Inchon.
