Hey everyone, new here. I was gifted my grandfathers 05 Tacoma base model with the 4.0L in it, last year. Anyway, last November it had an issue where it would crank and crank but wouldn’t start. It would sound like it’s about to start than revert back to cranking. After a ton of attempts it might eventually start but it seemed like it was only running on 3 or 4 cylinders. I did some research and found that the crankshaft position sensor can cause this issue so I replaced it and it fixed the issue right away. Fast forward to this week and it’s doing it again. Has anyone run into this issue? Idk if something might be messing up these sensors or something else is causing the issue and replacing that sensor was a temporary fix.. any advice would be appreciated.

Non oem ones across many manufacturers are notorious for being crap, did you just use a parts store special?

@545 I bought it off rock auto, hitachi brand so I assumed it would be solid.. apparently not. I’ll order oem and give it a try. @dk_crew yes I can, I haven’t since it started acting up again, but I remember before it lead me to the crank sensor
