I have a 2008 Tacoma started doing the same thing. I’d disconnect the battery for 60 seconds and thought it would help the restart… it was totally sporadic. Turned out the key has a tiny chip in it and it was sending a signal, or no signal, shutting the truck down. It would crank and crank. Started slow then happened almost every morning. Try your spare key and stick with that key. Sounds like it’s your key to me. Sometimes I’ll still accidentally grab the wrong key from the rack and it will still do it… I’m al Ope wrong key lol!

It will open in key on mode. I just had an issue where I looked to see if it did.

Thanks, that’s very helpful. What’s the expected voltage? I might wire up an LED to make matters easy.

Additionally, what’s the next step if either 1. There is power, or 2. There is no power?

Hmm, I did program both keys myself, and they are from AliExpress. I think the security light would flash if this were the case though. I think I’ll have to connect TechStream and verify next time.

Sounds like the exact issue I was having when my main key malfunctioned. I would only run an OEM key if it were me. Next time you get the “no start” issue try switching keys. Do you have an OEM key?

Should be right at battery voltage cranking so 10-12v.

If you have power then we want to see if the fuel pump is running and making pressure.

If you don't have power then we need to see why, we would want to look at the C/OPN and Fuel Pump Relays.

Yeah, but it's no longer programmed for the vehicle, you can only have two coded at any one time apparently.

Dang, well keep the other one handy and try it when it happens again. If it starts right up then you’ll know it’s the keys. I have learned the hard way over the years to spend the xtra money for OEM

No you can have up to 8 keys registered (5 master and 3 sub), you should see a flashing security light if it's not recognizing the key though.

I never seen the security light flashing when it was happening to me? It was like it was half recognizing the key because it would start, sputter a bit, then die, and crank and crank… like the fuel was shut off.
