Only on my roof so far. What have you done about this other than having it repainted?
Just looking for ideas. It's a 2011 and only 150,000 miles.

Yours looks a little worse than mine but I went to a ‘wrap’ shop recently to see if they could wrap over mine with PPF. Initially via photos the guy said it would probably need to be repainted because heaven forbid they had to pull the wrap up to readjust it, it may pull chunks of clear with it. However, I went back with my actual truck and he looked at it in person and said he could PPF it. A wrap may work for you too. This is mine though:

    IMG_5549.jpg

A repaint may be pricey… he guesstimated like $750-1,000 whereas the wrap is like half that.

Paint it in a cool color using Durabak Smooth or something similar.

Yeah that blue has some issues, well most Toyota blues do. About the only thing you can do is reclear/repaint. Could be wrong but think they were covering some of those bc of the issues at one time

exactly. Durabak kit I believe is $200. May be more on the market.
    With a cool color

vs a boring color for $4k+. At least that’s the last quote I got.

I wonder if there’s any drawback to driving faded paint rather than looks of patina.
In terms of it causing further damage like rust, beyond simply not looking new.

I notice many random people seem to think one is rich for having a Tacoma. Maybe faded paint will resolve that.
I don’t think it means rich. It’s an older truck, almost 20yo, that cost less than getting a Hyundai or Kia whose 5k OCI includes replace whole engine and trans

My clear has taken a shit this summer too. Started off like yours 2 months ago and mine has spread like wildfire. The now 40 straight days of over 100 degree Fahrenheit summer heat has not done me any favors.

I wonder if this is happening a lot to older trucks. I’ve seen some pretty cool colors pop up like a pale yellow and lime green. They are either repaints or wraps. My 2010 is black with 187k miles but has been garaged at work and home for most of its life. Paint is still good. My friends Denali is 4 years old and lives 100% of the time outside. His paint is terrible.

    Hard to say
My 1999 with 58k miles was a black Tacoma from Florida
All paint except the cab roof was original and near perfect

I’ve had my 05 since 2014 and have kept it washed, waxed, and decontaminated/clay barred and ironex’d but it still failed

luck of the draw I suppose

but then my 1984 K10 had rust but the paint was beautiful (laquer paint?) no peeling or anything.
Think Toyota needs a new paint supplier

I think you are right, although Toyota paint quality has a lot to be desired. I'm known as the detailing fanatic in my area: consistent wash, wax, clay bar, etc. and my paint still went to crap. Truck lives 100% outside though in the brutal Texas heat. Not even a tree to park under for shade. 2013 model. I see garage kept babies on her though from the early second gen era that look flawless though. Consistent 100+ degree heat + contaminants vs a garage kept/climate controlled environment will definitely make a difference.

My gf on the other hand has washed her Honda CR-V maybe 2-3 times in the 5 years I've dated her and she doesn't have a single spot of clear failure, and barely any rock chips and her car is a 2009. Also lives 100% outside with no shade.
