I bought a wrecked 06 Xrunner last year for 2500. Just to take the whole truck apart and sell it. Made 5 grand on top of what I paid for it. Best bet, if you're going to part if out. Would say post on Craigslist! And the vultures will come! 05 and up tacoma are in high demand for parts. Many people buy salvage cars and trucks from auctions to rebuild and resale. I had a guy drive from new Mexico to houston just to chop the roof of the tacoma, threw it in back of his truck, and drove back to new mexico.

Hope you are not offended by this, but I am always a day late on these. I need a passenger side sun visor if its in good shape and circumstances arise where you do part some of it out.

Thanks for the advice/interest/kind words so far. It looks like they will most likely total it. They're supposed to call me today to let me know. If they don't I will first try to sell the whole truck as is. And if I can get what I want, I will start the part out and contact the people who have expressed interest in parts.

You had liability? And they are still going to pay for it?

I work at a body shop and unless the insurance totals it, it wont have a salvage title. itll be clean even with all those repairs. and unless you personally submit it to carfax the repairs wont show up. body shops dont report to carfax so youll be fine there too if you want to sell it after. If its possible to repair without totaling it, I say do it then sell or trade it in. youll get the most that way

I have parted out two vehicles. Three, if I count one I did for my brother. People nickel and diming you on this little part or that little part. Taking off work early or not making Saturday plans so I could wait for "buyers" who don't show, then call the next day and want to reschedule. And at the end, you still have to scrap the remains.

My work time is worth about $30/hour. I am certain that I came nowhere near breaking even on any of those vehicles. How much is your time worth? It wasn't worth it for me on the previous three vehicles, and I see nothing magical about a Tacoma that would convince me it would be different.

    YMMV
