Have there been any crash test results released yet for the 3rd Gen?

I know they released them for the Tundra and they were surprisingly sub-par...

Well the Tundra design is quite old at this point so I'd say they were about as expected, sub par. Really amazing how long Toyota seems to like to keep their models around.

I was involved in a T-bone collision on August 8, 2016 with my 2008 tacoma. I was traveling going 45, slammed on brakes, hydroplaned in the rain and hit woman that failed to stop at stop sign and made a left turn crossing my lane of traffic going probably 25-35?.

Aside from $3600 in damages for seemingly simple enough front left corner hit, biggest issue I have after the fact is that MY body is seriously messed up. I have been going through rehab 3 times a week since August. Just had MRI done too.

Your truck will hold up... but YOU, on the other hand...

I have damaged 2 ankles, 1 left knee, 2 wrists, 1 rib, 2 thumbs, neck, back, lower back, likely have 4 bulging/herniated disks (will find out tomorrow), pinched sciatic nerve and a messed up knee. All other damage to the truck is really not something to be concerned with.

Car insurances only total if damage is 75% or more so.... you can have 20,000 worth in damages and have car in shop like I had for weeks and weeks.

It is not how secure the car is.. but what you hit, how you hit, where it is hit, what the other car is, how fast... slamming vehicles into a wall obviously allows them to develop crumple zones and such but it still does not stop personal injuries. I would be more concerned about that.

As shown by my accident... these things are "conditional".

Edit: My airbags did NOT deploy.

Based on what I saw when I took the front apart for the install of my LED lights... it could be scary. I was amazed at how hallow the front seemed to me... and no I'm not referring to crumple points o_O Regardless... I'm still amazed by the truck regardless of the results.

From what I've seen of the Tacoma, it's both sides. I think some companies were doing a mid-production change so they went minimal. The 3rd gen update incorporated the new safety standards and testing. I believe it was Ford that only updated the specific model that was to be tested (4-door) and left their other models unchanged initially. That does not appear to be the case with the Tacoma. The additional bracing is evident on both sides and the stronger cab mount (for small overlap front impact crash protection) is clearly on both sides.

There were a lot of safety updates for the 3rd gen. Note the higher beltline (bottom of the windows moved up), which my theory is specifically for side impact protection. There's also a knee airbag now and stronger side impact beams as well as additional bracing.

The "soft nose" is for pedestrian protection. That's all relatively fluffy stuff for people. Your protection starts at the crash bar. If you notice, a lot of cars have the hood end further back now for pedestrian protection. The BMW hood is a particularly obvious example because it leaves a funky seam between the grill and the hood that many folks don't like aesthetically (myself included). The fat lower lip on the 3rd gen is all cushion for pedestrians.

I would be nice to be able to see the typical crash test results in the 5 star rating format.
Front, side, rollover etc... 5 stars, 4 stars, 3 stars etc...

I've never understood the point of that, they're all "5 star". I don't think I've ever seen one less than 4 star?

Really? I've seen plenty of 3 and 4 star ratings... It's rare to see a vehicle with 5 stars in every category...
