Three relays for the ground switched harness to retain the dash indicator for high beams. I believe the relay coil itself is insufficient load to enable the dash indicator so an extra resistor solves for that? I should have looked more closely before I cut mine up (bought ground switched for my ‘02 without checking and it’s actually power switched.) I can dig into the parts if needed but not sure people care beyond what I mentioned?

Since I apparently have two power switched trucks and zero ground switched trucks, I’m probably the wrong person to answer this one anyway.

Washed, waxed and buffed. Looking good for a 20+ year old truck. Good times at the Tacoma meet today. My buddy also showed up with his 1st Gen DC. Turns out the master brewer also drove a Tacoma and randomly had a TW account, so we pulled him in too.

My photoshop skills are on the MS Paint level. Maybe we'll throw another one in the fall before the weather turns.

Late to the party but when you went into a panic stop did you go into ABS immediately? If you went into ABS immediately the best brakes in the world aren't going to help you as your limitations are tires. If you didn't get immediate ABS lockup then look into upgrades.

I could lock my old KOs in my 2013 with the electric brake booster without trying, especially in the wet. The best calipers on the market would have done diddly.

No ABS engagement. The electric brake boosters on the 2nd Gen OR/Pro were impressive, I definitely enjoyed the braking power on that truck.

Hmm, so now I have to go add pro brake booster to my ‘05? I’ll put it on the list.

They are crazy expensive and not sure about the vacuum to electric swap. I’ve not seen anyone pioneer it.

Once you've had a motorcycle / TESLA / EV, a supercharged Tacoma is less impressive. Still fun, but you realize the limits of the platform without excessive internals/tuning.

Not to mention the limits of a pickup truck as far as handling at speed and cornering. Even the x-runner is no match for a 3.

I am a bit underwhelmed. Very under driven and no inter-cooler.

The pulley it comes with will give you 4 psi (maybe) here at sea level. Does it have potential? Yes, but it could have been so much more.

If you go this route, will you run it with a Haltech ecu?

I’m not likely to install this on a 200k+ engine. But it is far more impressive with major advancements over the original 3.4 blower unit. This has +42% hp bs +25% in the old unit, and this has a bypass valve system like modern superchargers to only run boost on demand vs all the time, unlike the older units. Good efficiency improvements. But agreed it would be better with an intercooler. In the hypothetical that I ran it, I’d be unlikely to go full custom standalone ECU.

As pointed out, this truck will never do 0-60 in 3 seconds or handle the way the Tesla does, which greatly reduces the appeal when owning both.

Au contraire... Driving my other cars (3.2.-3.5 sec 0-60 and top speeds of ~200MPH) made me want to S/C my truck all that much more! I hated how slow the Tacoma felt, especially when merging onto the highway. The blower makes it eminently more driveable. (Truth in advertising - I live at ~7K ft elevation.)

If you didn't see it, I ran some tests on the Hella 500 halogen fogs and posted in the fog thread.

The halogen Hellas outperform every low color temp LED option on the market, including the SS3 selective yellow Max while running substantially hotter for superior snow clearing abilities. My primary use for fogs on the Tacoma is high altitude remote mountain highways in massive snow storm conditions. I was previously considering the Morimoto 2 bangers in selective yellow, trying to mount them in the lower valence, but mounting is a real challenge, output width is mediocre and heat is marginal with long warm up time. Since my main use for fogs is snow, halogens have significant appeal, especially if they outperform every LED option on the market. Size and mounting on a 1st gen is a challenge though.

I'm not a fan of bull bars at all, but this one is not too offensive for the ability to mount 6" lights (5" pictured). Still haven't decided, this would be function over form.

Also following Stern's advice for the Hellas. Looking forward to testing the results.
