What a Heep. I used to want a gladiator for my next truck but not anymore after hearing so many people having problems. What’s your next vehicle going to be?

4x4 duties and all the truck needs are now the responsibility of my 1st Gen.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/crashnburn80s-1st-gen-trd-double-cab-build.762757/

Go fast/commuter needs will be delegated to the Tesla Model 3 Performance, arriving on Tuesday. Several mods are already in route.

Posted in my 1st Gen thread, the dumpster fire Gladiator has been replaced by a Model 3 Performance for daily driver responsibilities, with the 1st Gen taking the weekend warrior duties. Never looking back.

If you were leaving the Gladiator stock, would you still recommend getting one?!

My roommate has a stock ish jeep Gladiator. He had more issues with it in the first year than I've had with my 14 year old truck... ever...

The Gladiator is a fun truck concept for sure. Leaving it stock would keep you under the warranty umbrella. However, and its a big however, it is still up to Jeep to honor the warranty and not try to weasel out of it, which they likely will. I want to buy a quality vehicle, not buy a piece of paper warranty. After telling people my horror story, I've heard a few other similar horror stories on stock vehicles where Jeep has still refused coverage. So no, I would not recommend it. Toyota 1000x. For a little perspective, I had the Jeep for less than 2 years and lost over $30k, it was in the shop for months and was a massive nightmare. I drove my 2nd Gen Tacoma for 5+ years and sold it for more than I bought it for and it never once had a single issue other than needing a battery replacement. One of these decisions is exponentially smarter than the other.

Today the Gladiator threw one last blow of spite. It auto billed me $250+ for connected services subscription. In the Tesla you can merely toggle on/off your service subscriptions in the car or in the app. With the Jeep, you need to call and go through the phone tree to find the right person to help you and cancel it over the phone. It’s also worth noting Tesla’s connected services are 1/2 the price of Jeep.

Reason #3471 why I plan to never buy a Jeep.

Which is a shame, because those Wranglers are nice vehicles.

No. Ducks should be limited to coding ducks at most.

Wow! I was tempted for a little but after reading about your experience I’ll stick with Toyotas!

Man, there are so many good lines in this thread once you have the full 360 picture of how it all went down. I think we need a movie version. Maybe Tom Hanks for protagonist?

Just found this thread @crashnburn80. I bought this jeep a year ago and quickly went with a tune from DaveCS1 on gladiatorforum to fix some of those idle/stall issues you mentioned. +8k miles since the tune and it’s running great. No issues except a creaky sound when braking/accelerating when it rains, ppl seem to think its the fox shocks. No powertrain probs

but this thread is scary af and i wish i hadnt found it

    Lifted. Locked F/R. Method 705s. 37s.
I’ve had multiple jeeps. I currently have a 2022 Gladiator Mojave. Small lift. 37s. Re-geared and locked front/rear.
The most capable overall vehicle I have ever experienced. Comfortable to drive 1000 miles a day. And then stop on the side of the road, air down, and absolutely conquer almost any trail I need it to.

and the same can probably be said for Tacoma on 33s or 35s

Absolutely zero problems. Every brand has issues with their vehicles.

I would not hesitate to buy another jeep in the future, and I most likely will.

I take it you saw my posts over there and Dave’s comments in response.

Good to get Dave’s tune as the HP Tuner 3rd party tune used by Magnuson was trash. In the Toyota world, through 2nd Gen, Toyota did the tuning for the Magnuson superchargers which is what I ran on my 2nd Gen Magnuson Tacoma before the Gladiator. Toyota’s tuning made HP Tuners on Jeep look like complete amateurs. I also extensively modified the supercharger on my Tacoma, grinding the snout way down, put on much smaller pulleys, bigger fuel pump, intake etc, and the Toyota never missed a beat with the tune easily able to take the upgrades, unlike the Jeep that blew up with a stock Magnuson install.

Lots of good lighting info on this forum while you’re here. Heated Jeep headlight posts in this thread, and good info on fogs over here:
