    I can't believe I ran most of the major west coast trails at one point or another in piece of shit old jeeps on 33's with a rear locker, a stick shift, and almost no electronics.

    Don't know how I did it.

    I'm actually kind of curious if a stock tacoma can get itself in enough trouble where the crawl control makes the difference over experience.

    Any brake-actuated traction aid is going to pulse. That’s how those system work.

    Crawl control is not intended for flat ground, and operates smoothly when stuff is really steep or difficult.

    The buzzing on a hill start is the braking system attempting to prevent you from rolling backwards, and also from have a wheel break loose of traction is low.

    These systems work well, and are quite powerful tools. With that comes some noise from the braking system. The systems are by no means necessary, and for sure guys got around in Jeep’s with open diffs back in the day, but the tech can be helpful.

    News flash: what is the world’s most capable off-road vehicle?
    Answer: A horse.
