Not even close. There's a big difference between the computer alternately applying/releasing the brakes and manually linking axle shafts so there's no differentiation.

Hmm. I provided sources, made valid points, articulated my thoughts well. I don't understand your post.

If I had to have one or the other, the locker, no question.

Would you rather have a locker or 4x4?

I'm coming from a Jeep JK Rubicon Unlimited. 3.5in AEV lift, 35s, factory lockers, swaybar disconnect, 4:1 low range, etc.

I think crawl control, MTS, and the Toyota electronics are awesome.

Lockers are fine till you have to turn... Then you can't. There's no worries about coming down locked with a spinning tire and snapping an axle. The electronics can send all the power at the axle to one side or the other, etc.

I followed a JK up a muddy wash. It was fully articulating, still getting bits of wheelspin, and I was nervous about making it up with the limited articulation and stock tires my stock Off Road had.

My truck followed it right up. The truck was balancing, sometimes only two wheels really touching, and what impressed me the most was the traction crawl control found on the slick surface.

So yeah, I think it's great, and it uses the ABS sensors and stuff that would be on the truck anyway too. So what's not to like .

I hate this "feature". I was going through deep snow/ice (about 1-1.5') and making progress...slowly not using CC. I had it in 4LO with the locker engaged and was crabbing right along until about 3/4 the way through and the truck just cut power. Yes I had TC off by holding the button until it was OFF. Not sure what the heck happened but I lost nearly all my momentum before the system allowed power to come back and I barely made it through the snow/ice.

In hindsight I should have tried CC, but I grew up without it and for the wheeling I typically do I haven't figured out a need. I love that it's there if/when I need it, but I'll still prefer a locker up front and a winch. I love that fact that we have so much technology available to us today to help us get out there and have fun.

I use it when it's steeper than hell and slicker than butter –and my sphincter is the size of a pea.

    It's amazing.

    please explain some more!
from what Toyota claims the computer can calculate slippage and send power to the wheels that needed most which eliminate loss in power and wasted energy! say from having power split 50/50 across the back and one wheel slipping on dirt with no traction is still causing friction and a bit of energy loss?

It doesn't send power to the wheel that needs it, it brakes the opposite wheel on the axle.

Does crawl control work at speed? No it doesn't. Can I clean out the tires of mud with cc? No.

Crawl control is cool but will never replace a locker in competition or for extreme wheeling.

when it apply break to one tire wouldn't that automatically send all the power to the other wheel? or am i loosing half the energy fighting the break?
i guess from my truck point of view Toyota locker is limited to 4 LO only therefore dosent work for spinning mud of the tires. i guess for idiot proofing if you locked and spinning fast and all of a sudden 1 wheel find traction it will tear up you differential.

What kind of speeds are you driving with your locker on?

I've driven done the highway with my rear locked before. Also driven offroad in the winter at 70+mph locked front and rear.

To be honest the only time Ive ever used it was when I purposely got my self stuck, just so I could see it work and pull my self out. It works great. Would I rather the truck come with a front locker? Yes. Do I hate that the sound the crawl control makes? Yes, sounds like something is really fucking wrong woth the truck lol. But it is a unique feature and instead of hating on it, im quite happy its on the truck.

This might explain some of it. Easier to lock the rear than put it in 4wd, flip a switch and the airlocker engages.

Crawl Control seems to help more nowadays since a lot of trucks are made with less articulation like the LR discoveries. Even watching videos of G class offloading with front and rear solid axles there is horrible wheel articulation.

Ive used crawl control mainly to get out of snow and sand
