Because I saw this thread I finally went out and tested CC on my truck today and I had the same results as you did. It worked in every setting going up hill and even slightly technical terrain. In CC Speed 1 though it makes so many loud sounds and really jerks the truck around with the ABS.

I’m glad that mine works, but I don’t think it’s something I will ever plan on using again....Definitely not the Speed 1 setting.

The middle (3rd setting) isn't bad.

I'm curious, is the throttle limit for CC the same limit in the 4LO map? Wonder if it could be tweaked via OVTune to get it working for those who seem to have a degraded CC system.

I thought mine was working because on the trails it seemed to work fine so I posted it worked. Then I tried the test everybody was posting results for and sure enough mine would NOT climb the curb starting from the tires right up against the curb in any setting. I didn’t really care because I thought on the trails that would not be a use case very often anyhow. Mostly used for extreme descents. Last week I had the TSB done for drivability which is supposed to help the shifting points/gear hunting which in my opinion did help. Then I got a thought that maybe this would help the CC curb issue. Those who said theirs worked always mentioned that the RPM’s increased and the truck crawled over the curb. Those whose don’t work have no increase in RPM’s and then the CC shuts off after a bit.

Well, long story short.....oh wait, too late for that.....since the TSB was done my truck now works as it should. I see an increase in RPM and over she goes. Since there is such a sporadic set of trucks that work and don’t and the transmission flash and now the TSB for even 20+ models, maybe it has been the difference all along? No flash/TSB no work, flash/TSB completed then it works.....don’t know but I know mine works now for sure.....and drives better so I’m happy and thought I would pass along the info.

Which TSB did you have done that fixed it for you? I haven’t heard of any TSBs for the 20 yet at all. Thanks.

New 2021 reporting for duty. Will test out my CC as soon as I have a chance.

So the test is, place wheels against curb, activate crawl control and see if it climbs the curb? Should I go about this test in a specific way?

try it in all 5 settings, don't use the gas, and note how long it takes for the CC mode to turn off. Note whether the RPM's try to increase or not. That should happen right away and it it does not it is most likely going to fail.

The standard test developed early in this thread is choking all four tires, 4x4 lumber front, 2x4 lumber rear. Lumber size is standard, curbs aren't. It was proven a 2019 will easily climb this while a 2020 will not.

For those testing, please stop using curbs. A curb is not a standard thing, I've seen 8-inch tall curbs with barely 1-inch tall right around the corner.

Ran into this thread, I saw this online that might be helpful here. I haven't tried my 2021 yet but I will soon and will report back if it work so not.

If you are having issues with your Crawl Control you NEED to call Toyota Corporate (800-331-4331) and complain. Both my father and I have done so and the case manager seemed like they were trying and helping us get it sorted out. However, the case manager called us today and told us "they retuned Crawl Control on the 2020+ MY and this is how it works now and that she isn't aware of any complaints outside of our 2 trucks." Everyone please call and report the issue. They are never going to acknowledge this or change anything if people don't call and complain because clearly the dealerships are not reporting any of these issues to Corporate.

This is absolutely ridiculous because at this point with the way CC works I see no difference functionally between it and Multi Terrain Select. So please, if you are having issues call Toyota and complain.

She’s high, whether one person or a thousand have reported the issue makes no difference. It obviously doesn’t work the way it’s supposed to if it kicks off climbing a grade. It’s not a design issue. I hope you told her that.

I haven’t read through all 21 pages but along those lines, has anyone tried it going downhill? Does it only kick off uphill?

I completely agree and we tried expressing that but they don’t seem to care. Which is why I ask anyone having the issue to call them, 800-331-4331.

So I tested mine yesterday going up hill in about 20 degree angle and crawl control worked going up, even at the lowest setting, it also worked going reverse backing it down. Haven't tried going downhill yet as I didn't an area to test that yet. This is on a 2021.

Did this test of yours have any rocks, roots, ledges, or anything to create any extra resistance for you? I ask because the very first time I tested mine was on a 15 degree or so hill with no obstacles creating extra resistance and so I thought it was working but then I got on a less steep hill with some rocks and things and as soon as a wheel hit a rock my truck stopped and didn't adjust throttle at all and then after about 20-30 seconds CC turned itself off. Don't get me wrong, I hope yours really is working but I don't want you getting your hopes up like I did.
