If you really think about it, Toyota is open to a ridiculous amount of liability if someone engaged CC and somehow had a medical issue, or jumped out of the truck and couldn't get back in, and the thing drove itself into another person or off a cliff. Before you say no one is going to jump out of the truck, I was watching YouTubers a few weeks ago and I cannot remember if it was a Jeep or a Bronco, but the Youtuber did just that. He jumped out and let the vehicle drive through a big mud bog on its own.

I suspect maybe they did what you are implying, but then again, if it only stops in "some situations" and you need to apply gas, my theory is crap!

I’ll need to try mine and report back. I did not have another Tacoma before this one to compare it to however, I think a little bit of throttle input makes it a bit safer.

Remember all the vehicles with sudden acceleration problems? Some were floor mats getting stuck, but many were drive by wire problems.

crawl control disengages when you open a door. that said, there's no additional danger compared to any other vehicle with an automatic transmission while it's in drive. people routinely step out of vehicles that are not in park and the vehicle rolls away under power. that's operator error.

I had TSB 009220 done about a week ago and had a chance to retest CC on the same curb. Still works, no throttle necessary to get up the curb. I am glad CC didn't get disabled by the new programming.

A further follow up for me. I buried my Tacoma in some sand and crawl control wouldn’t even spin the wheels when engaged.

I have a 19 and mine works flawlessly but two of my buddies have 20' and both of their truck have issues with cc. on Sunday our local dealership called one of them and asked him to bring it down for a software download for toyota's field engineer. So it sounds like toyota is aware and in the process of finding a patch.

Confirming my 2021 CC kicks right back in after I apply brakes and gas. Going down and back up a slippery hill felt easy to stay in control.

There is a calibration update now available to fix CRAWL control - Haven't been able to find an official PDF copy of T-SB-0045-21 yet but the CUW's are attached to ECU TSB Update thread.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/ecu-tsb-update.562550/#post-18431380

    Edit: T-0012-21 - 04B82 for 2020's, T-0011-21 - 04C21 CUW for the 2021's
    Edit: Confirming data: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/crawl-control-not-working.657481/page-24#post-25978756
    Edit: Official T-SB-0045-21 attached

    T-SB-0045-21

    Introduction:
On 2020 – 2021 model year Tacoma TRD Pro and TRD Off-road (4WD) vehicles equipped with Crawl Control, the Crawl Control feature may exhibit reduced functionality under some conditions. Customers may experience normal functionality on a flat or mildly inclined and smooth slope. However, the Crawl Control feature could deactivate when the system detects high torque demand seen in more traditional off-road scenarios such as a steep incline or difficult terrain. In this scenario the feature will hold the vehicle stationary for 5 – 10 seconds, then simultaneously deactivate and display the message “Crawl has been disengaged” on the MID (Multi-Information Display).

The Engine Control Module (ECM) (SAE term: Powertrain Control Module/PCM) logic has been modified to remedy this condition. Follow the Repair Procedure in this bulletin to address this condition.

    APPLICABLE WARRANTY:
This repair is covered under the Toyota Federal Emission Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 96 months or 80,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s in-service date. Warranty application is limited to occurrence of the specified condition described in this bulletin

    Repair Procedure:
    1. Confirm the condition exists. Does the vehicle’s Crawl Control feature exhibit reduced functionality under the conditions described in the introduction?
YES — Continue to step 2.
NO — This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable Repair Manual.

    2. Use Techstream to confirm if the ECM (PCM) calibration has been updated and check for the Authorized Modifications Label affixed to the vehicle in the location shown below. Is the calibration ID listed in Techstream and on the label the latest ECM (PCM) calibration?
YES — This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable Repair Manual.
NO — Continue to step 3.

    Old Calibration ID's for 2020... (896650410000, 8966304B800, 8966304B100)
    New Calibration ID's for 2020... (896650410100, 8966304B8200)

    Old Calibration ID's for 2021... (8966304C2000)
    New Calibration ID's for 2021... (8966304C2100)

    3. Flash reprogram the ECM (PCM)

    4. Prepare and install the Authorized Modifications Label

    5. Test-drive the vehicle to confirm proper operation.

Awesome. Now all I have to do is convince my dealer that the issue exists since they admitted themselves they don't know exactly how it's supposed to operate

Finally!! So much validation after my experience with Toyota dealers and Toyota Corporate trying to convince them this is an issue and all of them over and over telling me it is working as designed.

Here is the confirming data after the update to 04B82, prior test data below as well. Exact same setup in all tests - chocked with 4x4 lumber on both front, 2x4 on both rear. No run up, it was chocked and then idling in drive up against them. No hesitation with 04B82, actually quite aggressive using more throttle than needed.

    CRAWL Control - 04B82 (Successful)
    upload_2021-7-16_14-37-14.jpg

Prior test data below with both manual throttle control as well as 04B80 and 04B81 on CRAWL control.

Manual / Foot - 04B80 (Successful) - Note minimum throttle position % needed for the obstacle

CRAWL Control - 04B80 (Fail) - Crawl throttle % appears capped and unable to reach % needed for the obstacle

CRAWL Control - 04B81 (Fail) - Crawl throttle % appears capped and unable to reach % needed for the obstacle

Excellent work! Loving some good graphs here. That looks like the CC controls are more efficient at crawling now than just gassing it till she rolls.

I had my dealer do TSB 0092-20 today on my 2020 TRD Pro

No problems asking for it and getting it done, but I did provide a copy of the TSB.

Here is the new sticker that was placed under the hood.

Just confirming this is the latest and greatest for the 2020 Pro and also would this have corrected the possible crawl control issue as well?

The next ECU ID 04B82 on TSB-0045-21 is noted to correct the CC issue.

    See @mattleg 's posts above.

Glad to see this. Been following since I got my 21 DBC SB OR.
I recently had a chance to test the Crawl and as a lot of others experienced it did not work as designed. Guess I will let the dealership do my Oil change and hopefully get the TSB update soon.
