Yep. Got one of the units that isn't working properly. Disappointing. Been in several over the years that work like they should and it is pretty impressive. Hoping the TSB fixes it. Probably won't use it much, maybe beach or retrieving deer from a muddy field but I still want it working.
For any serious offroad stuff I will take one of my FJ40's.

Have more people been able to get the TSB yet and test it? I know @mattleg got it done and provided some details showing the TSB fixed it, but just wondering if we have any others that can show the TSB for sure works?

I had my update installed yesterday and tested it in an area that I ALWAYS had issues with the system and everything appears to be working exactly as expected now. Go get the TSB applied if you haven't already.

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
Odd. I am offroad at least 30 times per year, and I've used my CC a few times up and down hill. Never had an issue, other than the infernal hammering noise it makes when you use it. 2016 TRD Off Road. I'll try it again tomorrow, onto an ATV trail in the mountains. Last time I used it was in a similar spot. We will see.

because it could damage your truck if it just powers through anything without giving a flying fuck.

Just looking from the outside, but I don't see any possibilty of damage at the speeds that CC works. WOT in 4Lo at 5mph, if the system would even go that deep, is only going to stall the TC.

It doesn't allow wheel spin, so that shouldn't be a worry.

Also, there is some pretty huge torque limitations on the Stock tune also.

About the biggest worry would be ATF temps with long term use. Pretty comparable to towing?

Your 2016 worked as intended from the start, it was only the 2020 and 2021 that have this issue.

Apparently it is the newer models that are having issue. I have not had the update done yet but will when I get near my 10,000 service.
It still works on mine. Just not as well as some older versions. With Crawl in its lowest setting it should easily climb those 4x6's without throttle. I've been it some older Tacoma's that would probably climb a 12 inch block without throttle.

That’s just it though. Yours isn’t working. Throttle is not supposed to be required ever when using crawl control.

So went out and engaged the crawl control in 4LO at various settings and it wouldn't make it over a curb. Made appt for service. Now have to guess if they'll fix it with my 5100's and slightly oversized tires installed.

Did it initially after purchase on a slightly graded flat gravel road and it worked there. Just doesn't work when it's really needed (fantastic).

This truck is really on the verge of being a major disappointment (crap shifting, surging, lousy mpg, now the crawl control I paid for is non-functional). Now things will depend if Toyota fixes it or gives me the runaround due to my small lift and 265/75r16's.

I assume that a KDMAX tune isn't going to fix a crawl control issue (hope dealer fixes it before my scheduled tune)...

If you plan on getting a tune of any sort, don't bother with the dealer for the TSB update. For this particular TSB, the lift should have no bearing, but you never know with dealers.

The TSB can be flashed right along with a vF tune. No big deal at all. About half the folks that I flash need a TSB update. Just part of the service.

Thanks for the input, though I'd like to understand your comments further... If I get a tune (from someone else, since I don't have the gear), you think they'd have access to the TSB to make that update at the time (or should I check with them before)? Just want to understand what's typical/possible if the tuner winds up being my best option. Thx again...

    You're welcome!

    No problem.

Anybody around TW has the info as it is all posted in the 1st Post of the ECU Update thread, including this TSB that fixes CC. Freely available. Heck, you could do it with a PC, but you'd need the Tactrix adapter ($170). That said, some folks consider that a reasonable cost versus the frustration of a dealer. :D

We just bought our new 21 TRD OR couple weeks ago (like new off the lot with 10miles on it). Just tried the CC up a relatively steep side street. No issues. Everything worked. But will still have dealership verify the TSB and firmware versions.

Any 2021s manufactured since about May will be on 04C21, the TSB tune.

I did the 4x4/2x4 test earlier this morning on my ‘21 OR (built 02/21) as I’ve been suspicious of its Crawl Control performance. I only had 2x10s so I stacked them on top of each other and went for it. To my surprise, in CC on the lowest setting it made it up them, I’m also on 265/70R17 Duratracs, not sure if that would help or hinder?
Out in the real world I’ve engaged it up an incline that’s been relatively flat, but once it gets rocky and the truck starts torquing up it stops moving forward and I either add some throttle or it deactivates itself. I’ve also tried it up a sandy slope in CC setting 5 and it was a no go. My 6 month service should be coming up in the next couple weeks, I’ll be sure to ask them to verify that all is up to date.

As a follow up to my above reply, I tried the curb test this afternoon and it’s was a no go. With the truck bumped up against the curb in 2Hi with my foot on the brake I shifted to N, then put it into 4Lo, then into D. I release the brake and the truck presses up to the curb and just sits there. I started off in CC 1 and rotated the dial all the way up to 5 pausing a moment at each setting. I only tried the test twice and it ended up deactivating itself.
