My dealer doesn't know anything. I just filled out the online survey Toyota sends you about your experience with the dealer (I gave them good marks, this doesn't have anything to do with them). At the end of the survey it said if you have any concerns about your new truck call Toyota Customer Experience Center 1 800 331 4331 or go to Toyota.com/support/contact-us figure that's where I'll start. They'll probably come out with a recall sooner or later - sooner if all effected get on their ass a bit.

I'm not sure if I needed to test this for more than 20ft, but CC worked for me starting on a 10* pitched driveway and crawling to flat. It's a TRD OR with a build date of 2/20. I'll try to to find other surfaces this weekend and see if that changes it.

Sorry, been away for a while. I haven't contacted the dealer. I'll report it to Toyota this week. The less the dealer touches my truck the better.

No, he told me he drive it and it went up a hill just fine. I took him up the same hill and showed him how it didn’t work. He stated he would put in a technical request to Toyota.

The best way to explain the issue is that the crawl control is not providing any throttle when it gets in a situation where it needs some. For example, when I drive up a hill with crawl engaged, the truck just stays at isles where as my other trucks get to that point and then throttle is applied and the truck keeps moving.

I tested mine last weekend (because it’s new and wanted to se how it works) before seeing this thread. It seemed to work fine up a trail but I only went a little ways because the sounds were driving me crazy. Will test this weekend again and update.

I was at the dealership yesterday and saw a few Pros sitting in the back lot with a sticker on the windows. I asked just out of curiosity and was told they were waiting on Toyota to send a specialist to see what the CC was not working. I think there were 2 Pros and a 2 ORs. Hope it gets worked out for you guys.

Is there anyway you can take a pic of the stickers? Did it say something special?

I'm not at the dealership, I assume its a sticker indicating what service team or it's requiring more attention from Toyota. Really I have no clue but I can go there tomorrow on my way home. They had a few other Toyota vehicles with the same sticker. I do know one of the OR had a fuel pump issue and was told as of last Friday that the recall is probably just going to be a computer reprogram.

Just checked my 2020 and CC does not work like it is intended :( I won't be able to get to a dealership for a couple of weeks for them to look at it.

I think if enough of us make the dealerships aware of the issue Toyota will come out with a fix.

Just compared the CC of my wife’s 2020 Off-Road Tacoma to my 2017 Off-Road 4Runner.
    Very disappointed in the Tacoma!

In my gravel driveway of approximately 4-5 degrees.

    Tacoma:
Just up the driveway. No problem.
Chocked at a stop. Front tires with 4X4’s an rear with 2x4’s. Wouldn’t budge! Didn’t even try. Same with all speed settings.
Backed up about 3 feet for a head start. Would come to a dead stop at lowest 2 setting. At speeds over the 1st two settings, it would make it over. But that would be easy in any car.

    4Runner:
Chocked all four tires with 4x4’s (on Tacoma used 2-4x4’s and 2-2x4’s).
No problem whatsoever, Chalked from a dead stop.
At first it kind of gently tried, then it hit it like it meant business.

Lost faith on the 2010 Tacoma.
    Gained faith in my 4Runner.

There is obviously a programming difference.

Well, they called today and said TAS (Toyota Applications Submission) and the truck is operating properly. They referenced page 315 of the owners manual and stated that there were changes in power, torque, and shift points but no updates are available. Anyway, sounds like we are out of luck unless more of you call and file formal complaints with Toyota.

At this point I am so mad that I am selling the truck!!!! If Toyota can’t take care of its customers when this is a simple fix, then I am done with them. Those of you that have pre 2020 and use crawl control, my recommendation is to hold onto them.

    Over and out!

Using 2x4's and 4x4's to test was a great idea. So far all of us are just testing with what we can find terrain wise, this would be a good "standard" test. I am going to try mine this weekend to see if it behaves any differently choking the tires, it seems to work as expected otherwise.

It's easy for Toyota to dismiss individual cases, more difficult if there is a stack of them and we all know about it. Collecting up build dates, build location, and case numbers - submitting all of that under one case number would be more difficult for them to dismiss. Not saying it would work, but it may help toward at least an answer of why it was nurtured.

They’ve pretty much rendered it useless if it can’t even scale a couple of 4x4’s.
