I have used crawl control on a snowy road to try it out. the sounds are loudest in the slowest setting. They seem to be less harsh when you turn the control dial to the faster setting.

You mean you don't like the Toyota one where the truck is "stuck" on an incline?

I don't actually use crawl control, I just like having the buttons up there. I feel like a helicopter pilot and when friends are in my truck I press all the buttons and spin the dial while saying "beep, bloop" and they love it too.

You know that and I know that but we have experience with 4x4 systems. Why risk mudding the waters for the less experienced users.

Wait what the hell am I saying! Where is the fun in that! OP it's all normal, you can leave 4x4 engaged at all times. The noises let you know it's working correctly. Please install a dash cam and post video if anything unusual happens.:anonymous:

That’s the worst bit of marketing the morons at Toyota ever devised. They gave people a powerful hill ascent/descent control, that works in both forward and reverse, and might actually help them, and called it “crawl control” and try to show it digging the truck out of sand when it’s stuck.

The truth: if you are stuck, you are stuck. Crawl Control will not help you, ever.

Also the truth: Crawl Control can save you from requiring dangerous or mechanically risky throttle or brake applications when heading up or down very steep terrain with poor traction.

I realize that diffs and driveline locks up in 4h and 4L. Hence why It was only attempted in straight line driving. No turns.
Also, manual states to 4H at least 10 miles a month for lube. That isnt an issue in straight line. it's sort of difficult to find a 10 mile public gravel road. At least around here.
Ive had no binding or problems in 4 H on straight roadway. No turns.
I just wanted to see what the crawl control was. The lack of, or way it finally engaged was shocking to say the least.
Ill have to play with it more at the ranch when I have the time. As for now, I wont attempt it anymore.

The difs do not lock up in 4h and 4l. The rear dif can lock in 4l if you use the locker.

Wow I just had the best idea. What if instead of the snorkel, and hear me out, I installed a periscope through the moonroof? That way I could see who was causing the traffic jam on HWY82 when I'm rolling on my 35's to the grocery store!

I'm not even sure what thread I'm in anymore, I'm just having ideas now.

I just drive in 4hi when it is raining on city streets. I disengage 4hi when I know I have a curve or a turn to make. Pretty easy getting the 16kms that way.

I'm embarrassed to say that I have almost 13k miles on my truck and I have yet to use crawl control.

Lmao, kinda makes you wish the truck would talk to you in a soothing British lady's voice when you activate the controls... "Traction loss detected. Activating traction augmentation system, please wait"

I personally would rather make sure it works, and learn the steps to properly use it , way before I have actual need .

4H on rain slick roads for 10 miles is an idea I never considered. Thanks.
I still have the availability of straight line roads for more than 10, but the water may ease any apprehension.

More people should be like that. Know before you go. Definitely try using the system. Just do it in a way that doesn't pose risk to the driveline. In a gravel or dirt lot that will let the wheels spin when needed.

Last week I put my truck in 4lo in the neighborhood just to make sure it works and I knew how to engage it properly.

    I drove about 20 yards
