When you need to "crawl" with a M/T, you just slip the clutch. Or were you joking?

Well screw it... I made a decision. I'm gonna go with a manual TRD Off Road. And if I have to wait, I'll just wait...

I was going to order something that wasn't available in my region also...but the dealer tried to get it built and the "factory" or whomever does those special request told them that they could build it BUT be prepared to wait about 3 months until they get the dealers stocked with trucks THEN they will go back and start building the special request...I don't know if that's true...but that's what I was told!

Very well said... when Toyota stops offering a manual transmission in their offroad truck, they will lose my business. As I am about to buy my third Tacoma, I've made that clear to the dealership.

Don't know if you are joking. But a manual doesn't need a transmission cooler.

Here is what you DO get with the manual off road:

    - clutch start cancel button
    - atrac (advanced trac control, think limited slip diffs by brake actuation) in 4 LO
    - a really great low first gear that I think is going to be really good for crawl situations
    - sunglasses holder where multi terrain select nob would be in the overhead space
    - an easy and fun manual transmission (subjective but I love it)

Overall it doesn't have the same shiny tech as the AT but the abilities are all there in different forms. If you're in MT kind of person I think you will be satisfied.

As for dealer runaround: shop around as many dealers as you can. I had tons of dealers tell me the truck I wanted didn't exist or was being built at such and such a date, until I randomly showed up at one to which the exact truck was being delivered in a few days, unsold.

Once you've decided just be persistent and patient, things change pretty quickly (at least in my area).

Auto only as people have said. No the ecu basically needs to control everything for you. The crawl control on manuals is between your ears.

I put a $500 deposit on a manual truck, which is supposed to arrive mid December. Yeah, I thought about it for a few days, and I definitely want a stick.

People keep saying that, but give no explanation. I've driven many manual cars but this is my first manual truck. I keep trying to Google how to do what crawl control does but in a manual (as in mimicking CC in a manual tacoma) but keep coming up with the auto CC. What keywords can I use to learn how to get out of sticky situations in a manual truck? Or can someone here explain? I would imagine it involves wearing out the clutch.

Clutch start cancel to get rolling in a sticky situation. A-TRAC and a sensitive right foot when already rolling. Better then either of those is some actual experience and not shying away from putting the grey matter between your ears to good use.

Crawl Control is needed if a person doesn't know how to off road well! If you know what your doing manual gives you all the control and power you need.

Hop in your truck, stick it in 1st, and slowly let out the clutch. It will roll.

Put it in 4 low and it gets even easier. Don't touch the gas. Don't ride the clutch.

You've obviously never driven your grandpa's grain truck!
