Ok so went for some true offroading finally with the taco. At one point I thought hey, let me make sure all these features and such work.

4-Hi...simple. Got up to a nice speed on some well graded dirt track. Handles great.

4-Lo...simple. I thought that in 1st gear it did really well both up and downhill over rocky terrain. Nothing too crazy but I was happy.

MTS...well I can't tell that this does anything differently, but this was a decently mild trail.

Crawl Control....wtf just happened? So basically all I could get it to do is go forward a tiny bit, then it would slam on the brakes, then forward a tiny bit and slam on the brakes. It basically would just shake you back and forth. This does not seem like it is working properly to me based on videos that I've seen. What gives? Anyone else have this same experience with it?

Now, I may not use it really but I want it to work if I ever do. I'll probably just use the pedals like I always have but ya never know.

Crawl control is pretty jerky at anything less than the top speed setting.

The truck naturally wants to idle faster than any of the pre-set speeds so it has to fight itself a bit with the brakes.

Yeah I thought the same thing when i first used it. From my understanding that is normal behavior. I was in some deep soft sand and put the MTS to sand/mud and then turned the Crawl Control on and it dug me right out. I don't know what terrain you were on but that might be the issue. Just my thoughts. Hope you enjoy the truck.

It was on just some dirt/rock, but nothing crazy. It seems to me it should just move slowly along, not jerk back and forth.

Every video I have seen of the crawl control specifically says that is going to jerk itself out of situations. I am not sure why you expected anything else.

I just use 4lo and drive the truck myself.

That's what I normally do anyway. But I saw a video of someone going up a hill with it and it just...drove up a hill. No jerking.

Got it, the videos I saw were a truck stuck in sand and it looked pretty rough.

Yeah, the stuck in sand I would expect to be rougher.

I tested crawl control a few times in deep snow,.. either crawl control sucks the big floppy donkey, or I did it wrong.

I found a few times that crawl control would not get me through some deep snow areas that I could easily go through in 4low. I don't think I'll bother with it again unless I'm already stuck and ready to break out the shovel.

The video I saw they were crawling up pretty rocky terrain and they changed to all different settings but the truck moved no more than 30 feet. I think it a basic attempt to make 4x4 for dummies. It seems to work well in mud and sand, but rocky up hill you need to chose a proper line to keep the truck moving. Other wise it will sit and basically just test each tore to see which has the best traction and use the best program in the ecu to match the combo it needs. Computer trial and error.

That would be because crawl control isn't meant for deep snow, for deep snow you want momentum to carry you through the deep section until you are able to get your tires back on solid ground.

Crawl control is pretty useless in any situation needing wheel speed to clean the tread or momentum.

It is normal. Honestly, I do a good bit of off roading with mine and I never use CC. Even on the fastest setting, it's still too slow. The only way I would ever use it would be if I were buried in sand or mud and no other way out. The slowest setting is very jerky. You at least need to go to the 2nd or 3rd speed setting for it to smooth out a little.

I've tested out crawl control a few times on the trail just to understand how it works and it seems clunky when testing where you don't actually need it. With that being said, I have actually put it to use on a steep mountain switchbacks. I could have reversed and picked a new line but the crawl control was an excellent option to negate wheel-spin on loose, steep mountain trail. It worked great and has many useful applications. I'll probably use it again.

Part of 4 wheeling that's fun for me is testing your skill and improving it. I've never understood these enhancements to autopilot your way through terrain. It kills the experience.

Yeah I like just driving it myself. My main point of testing is to make sure all the systems are working as they should while it's under warranty.

SSO hybrid bumper, Warn winch, RCI skid trilogy, RRW sliders, everything in the cheap/free mods thread, and of course the frame recall work.
So a lot of cranky noises while in crawl is what it's supposed to do as it engages all the brakes a lot? Wow - I thought something was broken! Not going to use that again.

    your speed setting was off.
from what you're describing you had it on the lowest speed setting.

For what its worth I found crawl control to be completely fucking useless on trail with rock. I can see it maybe being useful on sand or slippery hills but for the most part useless.

MTS on the other hand, call me too new aged whatever but I think its absolutely fucking amazing.
I've only really used the rock setting but it works. All the times on the trails the other guys had to take running starts or we had to rock the truck as soon as a wheel came off since its just open diff. I was always in rock setting and each time exact same obstacles just crawled up it no problem. Had video of it too as soon as my wheel came off it sensed the spin and locked that one brake no problem.

    20170806_111450.jpg

Hard to tell from this pic but rear passenger was completely off and front driver was off as well. crawled up it no problem.
I've been so impressed with it on the rocky trails here.

agreed but the MTS works great. still need to navigate etc just helps limit wheel spin.
