WARNING ! I wondered why my dealer wanted me to see the You Tube videos of the use of the "Crawl" feature, where they only used sand. Now I know. In Alabama mud it is completely useless. Unfortunately, I decided to go through a serious mud hole (because I have the Crawl feature.) However, after several minutes of having the feature dig me in deeper, with no other results, I CRAWLED out and had to get a tractor to get me out. DON'T TRUST THE CRAWL FEATURE IN MUD. IT DON'T WORK.

What were you expecting exactly ? Just push a button and watch your truck levitate out of any terrain ?

Crawl control isn't new. It's been on Land Cruisers, 4Runners, and FJs for years. It doesn't give more traction than A-Trac, only difference being the truck is modulating the throttle vs your right foot doing it.

What would you call Land Rover's new feature (where you get out of the vehicle and drive it remotely with your smartphone)? A diaper?

You know, there's a whole lot of you who sit up there on your high horse and forget that this may be people's first truck, or not have a good dealer who can teach them about their truck

Or even those who get out there and TRY stuff

Lay off OP for trying it out in the mud...it's not like it's widely publicized by toyota on what situations it can and should be used in and which ones it's not ok

I think a Google self-driving car might me more up your alley. Don't worry, the technology will be available soon.

^Tesla, BMW, etc have a "summon" feature where the car will move out of its parking spot and come to you. I guess this is Land Rover's adaptation. If you are silly enough to wheel alone, it lets you be your own spotter.

As per the video you must be reversing down an incline and use the gravity assist feature enabled by crawl control. Then and only then will the Sir Isaac Newton gravity assist software be activated to get you "unstuck".

I am not bashing...just pointing out that mud needs to be cleared from your tires... crawl may work really well on hard surfaces or some hills... but not mud.
Gotta learn...and we learn by doing. Or asking a Canadian Redneck, round here. :D

Just bustin' your balls. If I had crawl control, I would probably play with a few times and never touch it again. I engaged it on my test drive and loud popping noises made me and the sales guy cringe. I just don't see it as being anything other than a gimmick to lure married suburban men who long for adventure but are bound to the strip malls and big box chain parking lots of America.

I have been looking at 4Runners for some time. A lot of people kept telling me to get the trail because CC is nice. After researching it, it seems like a gimmick that is for people who don't know how to drive. I am yet to see CC get somebody out of a situation that my right foot couldn't get me out of. Glad I decided on an SR5. I'll just have to get a locker myself.

Tech is already available, just out of reach in terms of cost. Oshkosh modded an army truck and had it on Top Gear. It could recognize boulders and pick the best line, etc.
