Question - I'll have my OR Tacoma in about 2 weeks. I was excited for crawl control for a completely different reason. I don't intend to need it to get me out of a sand pit. I was hoping to use it to control my speed while going down very steep declines. Instead of riding your breaks, you can engage crawl control and use that feature to keep you at a reasonable speed vs. wearing out your breaks. Am I wrong here? I do a lot of hunting and some of the dirt roads I use to get into the back country are incredibly steep.

This is what I've read about extensively. I also live around lots of sugar sand so not getting stuck for hours again in my PreRunner doesn't suck. Looking forward to it.

Um... How do you think crawl works? Via computer controlled selective braking, while in 1st / 4L.

It's not going to save your pads any more than selecting the right gear.

That may not be so true. I'm no off road expert, far from it really, however the physics tend to suggest it would do exactly that by not overheating and overtaxing the brakes while descending steep and uneven terrain.

i guess if you want to jump your rover off a cliff and make sure it doesn't kill you, you can run a test drive of your phone an analyze the results :).

I have the limited 4WD and I watched Alot of videos on crawl Control. Couldn't you use just regular 4wd system with good tires to get out and if needed max Trax pad? It seems to me that crawl control yet great is just another fancy cruise control. I myself don't needed I won't ever four wheel in that type of roads.

I think i successfully made a "build page". Take a look if you're interested. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/louies-build-2016-trd-off-road-double-cab.417631/
Those of you that refer to crawl control and mts as tools for people that don't know how to drive off road are mistaken. I live in the desert. Can't speak for mud. But on a rock trail crawl control can do things a human sinply can not do. It's not about skill... No one is capable of controlling each wheel independtly. There's no buttons for that, you have only one gas pedal and one brake pedal. Crawl control is not for pussies, it's better than any driver.

Get your self half stuck on a shelf road on the side of the mountain and let's see your skills and nerves get you out.
