It seems like its more geared towards those with lots of money, and want to have a vehicle that looks nice but they can also go to the mall etc.

Seems like theres times it would greatly help like in sand. but in mud cant see it helping at all.
There's a lot of places I think a full locker front and rear will do way better than crawl control.

And like you said I think its more fun off roading without all the extra fancy features.
It almost seems like its more so for someone who lives in the countryside and have to drive on dirt roads and such all the time. but for serious off roading where you're on trails and what not its not needed.

someone with a new OR post a video already with you stick in mud.
Somewhere where normally having a locker wouldn't even get you out, you'd need to get out of your truck and start a recovery whether with traction boards, winch hilift or snatch strap.

Electronic simulation of lockers is A-Trac. Crawl Control is low-speed cruise control. The two technologies are of course complementary but not the same.

The Land Cruiser used to come with front and rear lockers when it had front and rear solid axles. The loss of the front locker was due to the introduction of independent front suspension in 1998. A-Trac and crawl control didn't appear until a whole decade later. A-Trac isn't intended to be better than a locker; it is something Toyota developed to make up for the loss of a locker, given the strength limitations of IFS CV axle shafts. Read Toyota's patent filing on A-Trac.

KDSS gives better articulation than solid sway bars, but robs ground clearance and provides less travel than removed sway bars. KDSS works by mounting one of the conventional sway bar's frame attachment points on a movable shock. It's a more idiot-proof solution than the electronic sway bar disconnect used on the Jeep Rubicon, but isn't as crawl-friendly.

Until I see people stuck like that on a muddy hill and not need any recovery just crawl control I'll believe its better.

And lets just be honest here, no one buys anything to go off roading and will leave it completely stock. I wouldn't doubt people that buy these 4runners etc with crawl control that actually take it for some serious off roading add in lockers if it doesn't come with.

besides almost seems like it takes away the fun of recovery and needing to think how to do a safe one.

I beg to differ on this statement. I know first hand how well they are off road... You like to stereotype... have you been on http://www.ih8mud.com ?

Wrong. A-trac was introduced in 2000... Not a whole decade later

@07trd4x4 but seriously its not something you see often. regardless of whether they say its their main one.
Range Rover and the Merc G65 are both claimed as amazing off road vehicles. But who the fuck goes wheeling in a 150k SUV other than Arabs in Dubai?

Try going up to the Rubicon any giving weekend. 70% of rigs are jeeps... Then 40 series Land Cruiser.. Followed by Toyota pickups/tacomas. On occasion you will see defenders and Discos.

at the end of the day you're doing something that may damage your rig greatly...usually you wont want to be doing that in something thats super expensive lol.

    You got a point...

I am just biased since I try to wheel my 100 series every chance I get. I also get the play in the 200 series every now and then. :)

    every auto maker does that.
Look at ford, built the raptor as an off road ready truck who is going to pay the $85k for it to take it off road? I mean besides idiots like this that think because they bought an 'off road' ready truck they can do anything
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKQdlXvbWSU

How many people do you see go buy a lamborghini gallardo superleggera and actually track it like Lamborghini said it was made for? I know they are insanely different classes of vehicles but its the same either way.
Many makes build these things saying its their main purpose built vehicle yet no one usually uses them for the reason they are made.
Range Rovers come with how many different types of terrain select? How many rich people do you see actually taking them off road? They just use them for a status symbol and to get the kids from soccer practice lol.

The new Merc commercial does that too. Brag about how the new G65 has legendary off road behind it. Guess what I see tones of G65 every day, you know where they all are? In rich ass neighbourhoods and in very rich shopping and entertainment areas in toronto. They're all by the hazleton in yorkville which is where all the celebrities are when they come to toronto.
