Are you really going to devote all that space to a shitter? Why not keep your setup and add a cassette toilet and a privacy tent. ~200.00 all in. Do your business then drain in any bathroom toilet, porta-pottie, or public resrtoom.

I recently purchased a Thetford XG from Cabellas for ~119.00 as my travel trailer has no grey or black, just 31 gal of fresh. I found some positive reviews on YT and decided to set it up next to my bed to test out the reviewer's claim that they couldn't smell anything and they had the unit right outside their tent. I can 100% confirm this is true. Only smell I got was a faint whiff of the camp fresh holding tank treatment that I put in along with a liter of fresh water when I initially set it up. I didn't know if I wanted to get the XG or the lower profile, less expensive equivalent cassette toilet that sat closer to the ground. 100% happy I bought the XG because it is just about regular toilet height so I don't need to drive from the hips getting off of it like I am deadlifting.

I emptied it for the first time this morning - no big deal. Top removes from the bottom and you just pour out the bad stuff, rinse, add fresh water and a few ounces of the tank treatment and you are good. Three days and nights of using this thing (#1, and #2) and can confirm no smells other than a light chemical smell for the 3 seconds you open the trap door to let the bad stuff into the cassette and use the flush mechanism to clean the bowl. It sat 4 feet away from me next to my bed and I couldn't smell a thing. Would highly recommend. Dometic makes a similar product that is highly reviewed as well and there are other tank treatments that do the same thing.

I wonder if everyone missed the fact he has a GI condition because those are no joke. I’m along for the ride OP and I’m curious to see what you come up with. For starters I would look at van living types of builds and see what their toilet solution is. I would think a cassette toilet would be the most viable solution here, a lot of smaller trailers/vans use them.

1 - backcountry bidet is worth looking at.
2 - get one of those units that allow you to empty your rv tanks into a portable container to haul away. Smart tote.
3 - just hook output of toilet to the container
4 - I understand why you are trying to do this. Good luck.

AB55C1A6-81C9-4F34-BB45-6614723A2681.jpg This might be a viable alternative. It’s certainly cheaper. I bought this a year or so ago. It’s an Ironman 4X4 Bush Toilet. The manufacturer claims it will support a 400 pound person. I’m not even half that, so I should be good.

It is a cube that folds flat and fits in a carrying bag. You can dig a hole and put it over the hole, you can place a bucket with cat liter under it, you can place a bucket with a bag under it or you can put a bag inside of it, that fits under the rim.

Ozark Trail shower tent (or any other brand you like; they make quick pop up types as well) for $50 and a 5gal bucket with seat. Add kitty litter if you like. You can get a two room version too.

Another, more useful option, would be an awning with room attachment.

I've got one of those Thetford's that I was given (nib) when I had my Westfalia; I've never used it because I didn't want to deal with the hassle.

Presuming you have your spare on a swingout, you could put your brownwater tank where it's normally located. Probably could put your clean water there, too.

I'm thinking there's enough room under the bed somewhere to have a ~4 gallon blackwater tank. That way you could actually plumb in an RV connection for dumping AND you could keep raw sewage out of your truck while using a decent RV toilet. Store the freshwater tank in the bed (or on top of the shell using a PVC tube).

Also you're going to want to plumb a small rubber vent line to the top of the shell. It's gonna smell during summer so you want that venting as high as possible.

Sounds like a good solution although I have a feeling your summer month experience isn't going to be as odor free.

I think I'd just buy an RV or build out a van with a toilet.

15 years ago we used to stay at a cabin that had electric and water but bathroom and showers were 200 yards away.. not convenient especially at 2am....I bought a 5 gallon bucket, bought a toilet seat.. I put seat down on work bench, put bucket on seat, marked where seat touched bucket, used dremmel tool to grind notches in seat bottom where seat touched in 4 places, there were 4 spacers on seat bottom. this keeps seat from moving around during use... bought some good thick garbage bags and some kitty litter that comes in 2 gallon jugs, when we needed toilet we would line bucket with bag, dump about 2 quarts of kitty litter, set seat onto bucket... no flush water needed.. we used this for 2 day trips where we had a bear proof garbage dumpster nearby..
