New member here! This is about my 2018 Tacoma SR5 4x4 double cab.

Recently several warning lights on the display came on, and stayed on. Truck runs fine, but dealer said there is mouse damage and the engine wire (pn 82121-04831) needs replacing. To the tune of $3300! $1500 for the part/$1500 labor.

I see several options online for the part for significantly less.

So, anyone experienced this? How hard is it to get at this part for replacement?

Also related - I understand there is a class action suit against Toyota because they used a soy based product as insulation on these wires. Apparently mice like soy.

Contact your insurance company. If you have comprehensive coverage rodent damage is covered. Squirrels chewed up the main wiring harness in my wife's Ford Fiesta a few years back and it was covered.

And just FYI, that lawsuit was dismissed by a judge in 2018.
EDIT: It was dismissed but was revived in 2021: https://topclassactions.com/lawsuit...g-attracts-vehicle-damaging-rats-can-proceed/
This case has been going on for 4 years so far. I wouldn't wait for a resolution to get your truck fixed.

How many wires were damaged? I have repaired tons of rodent damaged wiring if it is only a few wires.

Good question. I haven't looked into it yet. Do you know how to get at it?

Depends where the wires are damaged - common is under the intake manifold. Get the dealer to show you where it is damaged.

The question is how much damage? I'm surprise they didn't tell you to change the whole truck. Dealers usually do that.
