Drive from the Berkshires (where I filled up at a Sunoco station) and Lunenberg along the MA Turnpike. I was getting 29MPG!!! Now I know from the Berkshires to Boston decreases in elevation, but the thing is, on my way home I was still getting over 27MPG all the way back to the Finger Lakes in NYS. I was pleased.

For those that don't know, I believe to get a better short-term estimate of MPG, reset the trip ODO when filling up.

It's pretty much a downhill run from the hairpin turn in North Adams all the way to Bean Town. Do the exact reverse run and report back what you get.

go fill up your tank right now and divide the total number of gallons that you put in by the miles you’ve gone so far.

When you fill up the fuel range estimator in your truck doesn't know how much fuel is in the tank until after you've driven a bit. It starts with a calculation based on your recent driving habits and then adjusts as you drive more.

In summary it always estimates a higher fuel economy than what you are actually getting right after you fill up. Check it the old fashion way mathematically.
