So exactly the same situation as the truck posted in the OP where the dealer makes an offer for sale and someone buys it and is happy?

I guess it would be ‘exactly the same situation’ if I had bought them with the specific intention to flip for a huge profit. Was never my intention, ever. Plus I never ‘went fishing’ with inflated prices. We can argue this all day long I suppose.
If someone wants to pay 7k over new MSRP, let ‘em. That’s 9.5k over what I paid for mine. Far out. If someone wants to pay a 39k ADM for a New Bronco? Let ‘em!!
You are picking the black stuff out of the pepper and belaboring a point that YOU want to make. I’m not going to continue beating this particular horse, but you can if ya want. That’s the “fun” or sometimes, the f’d up part of a forum. I, however, am the OP, and, you’re missing the point completely - or maybe you just want to ‘win’?
Personally? The current high prices got me the truck I wanted at a price I liked and a little jingle in my pocket - it took a little work to get there. Any of us can do a bit more or a bit less work, be educated and get to where we want, or not. It’s our choice. Hoping more of us make educated ones, and not ones that bite us in the ‘end’. :)

It’s nuts, but not unprecedented, though the amounts of greed are just higher. I can remember huge markups /ADM’s on PT Cruisers, VW Beetles, ‘TBirds, even Caravans and Voyagers. Look at ‘em now. For me? These are the dealers I’ll happily steer clear of in the future.

I just found the hypocrisy in your post amusing. Like you said part of the fun of forums, no harm intended. I am glad you got the situation to play out in your favor. I think we both agree being smart and making the best of the crazy market is the way to go. For different folks that could mean waiting, buying their dream rig for ADM, or hustling to get a deal like you did.

There is no end in sight. This was my truck that I bought for $33.5k in January 2017:

    2017 Tacoma lol.jpg

This dealership gave me $30k in cash a couple of weeks ago and you can see what they are listing it for now. I have no doubt that they will get it.

Definitely seeing third gens going for close to MSRP even if they are few years old. I put my 21 OR into Carvana for shits and giggles and they offered me 37.5k. I keep going back and forth on selling it, I like it but its been two months and I've just hit 750 miles. I had 12 miles on it for over a week at one point lol.

My 2021 SR 4x2 access cab (utility package) offer from Carvana peaked at $29,244 about 4 days ago and now at $27,600.

    edit- $27,157 next day
    edit-down to $26,536 next day

I had my 2017 TRD OR AC in at the dealer for an oil change a couple months ago (yeah, yeah, I know ... I was being lazy). As I was waiting in the lobby, one of the sales guys walked up and asked if I'd take $32k for it. I almost said yes ... then remembered that 32k buys fuckall these days.

Bought an ORAC mid-2021 - so my 2nd truck, a 2009 GMC Canyon 4x4 (83000 miles) became an unjustifiable luxury even though the Canyon was good to me. Got 9K for it from a dealer and felt good about it. Then I saw it listed today by dealer at $ 18,200. just wow - guess I should have tried private sales - what I got from was similar to Carvana offer - idk that I could have sold it for 18K in good conscience- had some issues. Crazy times

Dude this is the internet, we can't have nuance here.

But seriously, unless there is some gouging coercion stuff going on. I can't complain about what others spend, just laugh at the sales guy and walk away.

That being said, if someone wants to buy ammo from me at insane prices above what I can get it for so I cab buy more truck parts....I might be willing to slim down what I have available to collect for myself...

If you get what I mean.

If you think the third gens are going for a lot of money, check out first generation. It's laughable.

No kidding. That was why I finally "ended up" with the 3rd gen. Why spend $19k on a 20 year old truck with 135k on it when I can spend $39k on a decent used 3rd gen with way fewer miles on it. These are crazy times!

...and thats how I ended up with a third gen 3 years ago when looking at 2nd gens (and used 3rd gens). Just didn't make sense to pay all that when just a few thousand more got you a brand new truck.

You got a good price for it as it is the going price on carfax 8000-12000. Was your Canyon modified like side steps, bush bumpers etc etc. I have seen one at 13,000 and it had all those mods on it. The dealer may not get that price and he may who knows but they will try.

That is crazy I mean 34,000 miles a year wow. The truck was probably worth that new in 2016 just saying. The dealer has his fishing line out there.

yah I was Ok with what I got, just amazed at the dealer markup a day later - no mods, all stock; feel bad for whomever pays near that new price - but I guess if you need a 4wd truck right now there aren't many options.
