There are several threads addressing Fluid Film as a rust/corrosion resisting undercoat product, in addition to countless other threads concerning the propensity of frames of certain model years to rust prematurely. The main criticism of the product in and outside the automotive realm is its thick waxy and tacky texture and its tendency to attract dust and debris. Still, it seems that it is effective in combating rust. So, I ordered three cans of it from Amazon. My use of it will be limited to spraying it on my truck's frame once a year before winter to combat road salt.

Unlike many of you, I don't spend my days under the car working on or near the frame (I do change my own fluids, but that's about it). I just thought I'd make a suggestion to those who are looking for an alternative to Fluid Film; something that isn't as thick and waxy but still does its job in combating rust. It's an aerosol spray-on lubricant called CRC 3-36. I use it on all my tools, vise, and other metal objects in my shed, which is prone to significant condensation over the winter months. For those who do a significant amount of work on or around their frame and want to avoid gunking it up... To those who spend time under the vehicle several days per month, so that grabbing a can off the shelf to re-apply a dose of it while you're down there isn't a big deal.... it may not be a bad idea. And, it's 1/4 the cost of Fluid Film.

    Just a thought.
