Hello, I was doing general maintenance to my Tacoma and I notice some big rust holes to the frame. When I took it in for the recall a couple years ago, the dealer looked at it they coated it they did not replace frame, now a couple years later frame is rotten. I called Toyota and they said sorry there is nothing we can do now you are out of the extension of the warranty. My question is the laws for recalls explain that they have they try to fix something three times before they have to buy back vehicle. I understand there is a time line but a couple years and sorry no dice that’s ridiculous. I’m told sorry we can’t to anything further. I’m shit out of luck pretty much? My main question is what are my options? Is there a company fighting for the people left with vehicles that are unsafe? We have done our part. Toyota has done a lot for some customers but some are left with rotten vehicles that aren’t worth anything but as parts vehicles. I’m sure I’m not the only one who has had the coating put on and the frame still rotted and became unsafe. Very frustrated at this point. I am a Toyota fan but this is pushing me away.

Take it to another dealer for inspection, your prior crc coating should be in there computer system. Don’t try to solve the problem over the phone.

    Sorry your in this spot!
12 years from in service date is the cut off. So your 06 was out sometime in 2018 pending it’s in service.
Are you sure the CRC was only a few yrs ago?
They don’t extend coverage with the coating just hide the rot and hope it makes it past what the class action suit covers.
You could try contacting corporate and filling a claim?

You're most likely not going to get anywhere with Toyota since you're past the 12 year mark. I'd give Safe T Cap a call and get some frame repair caps for your truck so long as there's still good metal to weld to

You're confusing the Toyota frame corrosion program with common "Lemon Laws." I think you're going to find that you're out of luck with Toyota. Good luck on a Lemon Law claim.

If I were in that boat, I'd buy a cheap welder from harbor freight, some plate a few metal working tools and have at it.

Once you're outside the window from Toyota, you are 100% on your own dealing with the truck.

From my own long, angry experience: Even if the dealership didn't follow the correct procedures for the CRC; even if you're still technically inside the window; even if you literally get to the highest level of "secret" customer service inside Toyota USA... You're on your own with the frame. Sorry man.

If you want to read about my long bellyache story, it's here.

Anyone who had the CRC (not to be confused with the company CRC) garbage applied should be checking their frame over religiously before the extended warranty expires.

Toyota is completing its mission on that first group of 2nd gens that fell under the old noxudol coating, which was hide the issue and get past the extended warranty period.

Unfortunately its the states and DOT's using those nasty chemicals on the roads that are to blame, not Toyota.

The wife’s suby was still sound with little surface rust same mileage and time as the Tacoma.
It also got a lot less attention than the Tacoma.

There are preventive methods that could have been done in the manufacturing process that could have reduced the rusting. All you need to do is look at unibody vehicles and what is done to prevent them from premature rusting out. Tacoma frames are a good example of why the same process should be applied to their frames. Just go out and compare a 12-year-old Rav4 underbody, (unibody), to a 12-year-old Tacoma frame straight from the factory with only factory protection. I bet the Rav4 looks better. I didn't wait for Toyota to send me a card, I was proactive and did what I could to add rust preventive to both the inside and outside of my frame.
As for road chemicals, I understand why they're used, but if a private citizen did something like that and it destroyed someone else's property they get sued for destroying private property.

My point is there are processes the manufacture can do to prevent the rust issue. Toyota, knowing the truck would be sold in the rust belt and along a coastal environment should have been more proactive in material choices for rust prevention. You should have been around when the first unibodies were released
