I am the second owner, have had it since 2013. Had several years of health problems so it didn't get driven much. Only had 16,000 miles when I bought it out of Michigan

i forget the details of the class action settlement, defiantly want to read up on that. i think it was 12 years from in service date

defiantly check with a second dealer and/or open a case with corporate.

key spots to check are up by the cats.

    good luck

Opened case with corporate as soon as I left the dealership. They will only stand by what the dealership says. The did recommend two other dealerships for further inspection.

It's also possible that maybe some of that flaking can get knocked off, sand down the bad spots and repaint and it won't be terrible.

    Just a thought.

Have a friend who is an expert at rustproofing, he isn't very hopeful that he can save it.

Don't see where I have much choice. It has to be cleaned/knocked off anyway.

Steel rusts. Doesn't matter who makes it. If it's garaged with moisture/salt/gunk on it, it's gonna rust. Sorry mate

Sure but look at any 40 or 50 year old frame sitting anywhere and I'll bet it has less corrosion than my 12 year old Tacoma.

Not if it was left sitting inside with salt slush all over it.

When we say "They don't build them like they used to" it's because all the poorly built ones that rusted into powder are already gone.

If there aren't 10 mm perforations then the warranty doesn't need to be enacted, per the warranty agreement.
