    Sarcasm duly noted.

And there lies the problem...there really can not be a true discussion of the Bible with a handful of posts on an internet forum.

Many are not encouraged to read it because it takes much time...much thought. It's a book you read with your heart as much as your eyes.

Many feel the Bible will box them in...take them from their own ways (the ways of the sinful world)...make them feel like they are no longer in control. Sin feels good...it's fun and usually easy. But in the end it takes away the best of our soul & heart.

    ---------------------------------------------------------
That's all from the pulpit from me for a while...I'm off to do some carpentry work at the new house. I'll be cranking up the Christian music and praising Jesus the whole time. :D

Doesn't answer my question. There are a lot more moral rules that stopped being followed long before jesus that had to do with requiring the faithful to kill people that didn't follow the rules, or make offering after menstruation etc.

I was speaking of Tooter's 100% literal moral statements to me which suggest we can't throw out any of these rules without literal and clear statements from jesus or god.

I would have thought if homosexuality was important to jesus there would be a lot of talk about that from him, but there isn't. The a person of faith might say, just because jesus didn't talk about [fill in the blank] much doesn't mean it is now ok. Which leads me back to having no idea what to throw out from the old testament.

As with simple questions about animals in heaven, you can show the passages that help you understand but they certainly don't help me see an answer. The passages talk about specific animals with apparent heavenly functions, so I understand that there are indeed animals to be found there, but nothing about pets.

Really? Was that necessary? Look at public views as a whole and you shouldn't be so surprised. I was actually surprised there are so many evolution-deniers here, but it is consistent with society.

gprice had already answered your complaint very well.

So, what part of this literal statement from Jesus

    don't you understand? ;)

A law applies to a specific situation... but a principle applies to every situation.

I'm not surprised that the majority of people are secularists.

(just for the record... I don't deny evolution. God designed all of the physical laws which govern the natural world as well as all of the moral laws which govern the consequences of our behavior.)

So women do need to leave the community during menstruation and then give an offering upon return?

Why am I sure your answer will include the word "motion". ;-)

Only a plurality support the scientific evidence-based view here. What does the "secularist" label have to go here? Do you mean they don't subscribe to worshipping any of the 300,000+ deities currently worshipped on earth? Or that they don't worship the one you do? If they worship Thor but voted for evolution then your secularist label is already factually wrong.

The first two chapters of Genesis were never intended as a literal account of the history of creation. They were written to provide us spiritual truth, not historical truth.

Evolutionary theory does not conflict with the Bible, nor does it conflict with original Bible based Christianity. What evolutionary theory does conflict with is a Fundamentalist understanding of the Bible. However that is not nor has it ever been the same as conflicting with the Bible itself.

Protestant Fundamentalism is simply a modern day re-interpretation of the Bible, one that - much like fundamentalism in Islam - insists loudly and rather mindlessly that it alone represents the truth.

It's entirely reasonable to be a faithful follower of Christ and believe in the hard science behind evolutionary theory at the same time.

Look for a moment if you will at the following individuals -- respected authors, Bible scholars, scientists, pastors, linguists, and more. These affirm that an ancient universe and earth, including big-bang cosmology, pose no threat to Christian orthodoxy, but may be viewed as plausible and valid interpretations, even literal interpretations, of Biblical text. Not one of these Christians, according to what they've written, sees the 4.5 billion year age of the earth, or the 14 billion year age of the universe as a crucial doctrinal issue.

Fundamentalist churches claim that the earth is young, not much more than 10,000 years at the most. Lots of people feel pressured into believing in such a young earth, even though all scientific evidence is contrary to such a view.

I once thought that in order to be a Christian I had to deny science and believe in a young earth version of creation. The church I attended taught that the earth is young, and required those who affiliated themselves with it to profess this belief through their statement of faith, including belief in a world that was created in six 24-hour earth days. Millions have been driven away from the church, and Christ, because of this very thing. I was very nearly one of these.

Fortunately I discovered there is no need for this to happen. You can believe in a staggeringly ancient big-bang creation event and a 4.5 billion year old earth and still be a Christian! The doctrine of salvation has nothing to do with the age of the earth or the evolutionary processes we see at work in universal creation, regardless of what present day Fundamentalists claim.

I almost want to comment on everyone’s comment, but this thread seems never ending. Some of you guys really think you come from monkeys? I respect your beliefs and your free will choice, but...

So to keep it short and sweet, I will just leave it with this for all, last verse in Bible.

    Revelations 22:21
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.

Polls suggest around 30% of the population of the US does not agree with that, and they do take the bible literally including the conclusion that the earth (and the entire universe) is 6000 years old.

And I'm one of them...

I see no conflict with science and God, because all science can do is to discover God's design of the natural physical laws which govern this world.

    Because it fits.

Today secular liberalism is the fastest growing religion in the world.

That's false. No religion (aka irreligion/nonreligious/etc. ) is the fastest growing. Belief or lack thereof has NOTHING to do with politics. Any attempt to do connect them is just a fear mongering tactic.

No. Monkey's are a different species obviously. We evolved into what we are today, they evolved into what they are today.

To end the debate on "when did humans stop evolving" one only needs to look at the human mouth.
