Why has your god not raptured you yet? Just because we haven't taken on a particular trait we discussed doesn't throw out the theory of evolution.

Could you imagine the outcome of non-degradable DNA? Humans would have starved out long ago if we were unable to age. We would have overpopulated the world in about 10 generations and starved ourselves out. Sounds like an actual weakness to me. Thus, we survived without having evolved DNA that degrades. I call that evolution and survival of the fittest. The SPECIES survived, not one individual.

There was a particularly common moth that I learned about in school long ago (if you need the references, I'm sure I could dig it up.. bear with me) that lived in the old Soviet Union in a wooded area (that means real trees, folks). This breed of moth was a darker speckled color, and it blended in well with the trees it liked to land on. With a boom in the industrial age, a factory was built close to the forest in this region, and it started pumping out tons of light colored ash through its massive stacks. The ash settled on the surrounding trees, clinging to and covering its bark. Well, the dark speckled moths now were suddenly very easy to spot against the ashen bark of the trees, and the birds started picking them off in droves. Before the moths all died out, some of the moths were born with a mutation that made them lighter speckled and they blended in better. Those lighter colored moths survived and reproduced and thrived while the darker ones died off from birds eating them.

It's the easiest to understand example of evolution and survival of the fittest through natural selection that I ever learned. I suppose some will say that God painted the moths a new color, but whatever.

Then why does it seem that all the shithead mean people in this world always seem to live much longer than the good folks? So God is saying that if you're good, he'll keep you on this heathen planet longer than the rest as a reward? Sounds like a punishment to me. If the afterlife for a righteous person is supposed to be so grand, wouldn't God want you there sooner rather than later? I suppose he's just putting the good man through his trials and tribulations to test and make sure he's worthy?

Oh dear lord, another rapture and/or end times reference. That's got enough content for an entirely new thread.

Nothing like stories of cryptic translations of generalized scriptures to tell the masses to "be good" or you won't catch the gravy train to heaven. This is some of the best manipulative and controlling behavior ever created by man to suppress society's disagreeable behaviors. If I hear one more born-again give me the latest scoop on world events and how they are foretelling a coming of the lord, I'll be forced to drown a sack of puppies in the river.

Put a satellite into orbit. Kill the engines. It will perpetually continue to fall to earth but due to its lateral trajectory will orbit. If on a perfect orbit and unaffected by an outside force, for a very long time. Gravity is the string that keeps our solar system together while other parts of the universe expand. Launch that same satellite on a rocket straight away from the earth, let it hit space, and cut the engines and it will keep going forever.

An asteroid from across the universe is hurtling towards earth but just barely misses us but its path is bent onto a new course because of gravity's pull. Those ever-expanding bodies will continue to keep going and going but many will fall into orbit around other masses, some will collide and deflect, and some will have their paths altered due to gravity's pull.

    Basic high school physics.

Ok dude, stop and pick up some books on proven astrophysics. Don't expect a bunch of truck dudes to have to explain it all to you in one thread.

You guys still haven't figured this out?

I expect to come to this forum for answers ranging on how to relocate my horns and squeeze 33" tires without rubbing to existentialism and my eternal salvation with a minimal of independent thought.

218 pages and we still haven't all come to an agreement on how the Universe formed and the purpose of life, combined with the role that religion plays in it?

    C'mon!

Dr Craig Venter, a multi-millionaire pioneer in genetics, and his team have managed to make a completely new "synthetic" life form from a mix of chemicals.

They manufactured a new chromosome from artificial DNA in a test tube, then transferred it into an empty cell and watched it multiply – the very definition of being alive.

The man-made single cell "creature", which is a modified version of one of the simplest bacteria on earth, proves that the technology works.

Dr Venter believes the organism, nicknamed Synthia, will pave the way for more complex creatures that can transform environmental waste into clean fuel, vaccinate against disease and soak up pollution.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHIocNOHd7A&feature=player_detailpage

His development also triggered debate over the ethics of "playing god" and the dangers the new technology could pose in terms of biological hazards and warfare.

"We are entering an era limited only by our imagination," he said announcing the research published in the journal Science....

    Too many to list now.
It's my belief that when sin and death entered the world life expectancy came into play. Well, that's obvious if there was no death prior to that. But you get the point. Man was never intended to die. I do wonder how we ended up with the expectancy we have currently though.
