Believing in evolution with divine origins? Reasonable.

Believing in evolution but no God? OK, I can understand that view.

Believing in pure creationism genesis-style? Come on.

Agreed. I don't want to sound like a total asshole, but if you honestly believe in pure creationism (again, not talking about evolution kicked off by a god), you really are an idiot.

    it is easily explained.

Where are the missing fossil records between the cambrian and pre-cambrian era?

......and sir, thank you for your service. I have several Fireman friends and I believe my son is feeling a calling to be a Fireman.

Isn't that a pretty loaded (and somewhat ridiculous) question?

    1) How do you define Creationism? Is it the direct-injection 6,000 year old flat earth kind? Or the more subtle blind watchmaker kind? Or is it somewhere in the middle? Or a combination thereof?

    2) How do you define evolution? Are we talking strict Darwinian evolution or natural selection or what?

Your asking a forum full of people who, no offense, don't have the chops to fully debate the situation and you give them a handful of choices : A, B, A+B, or D.

Fucking a ... it's like asking a HuffingtonPost commentator to spell out a rational view on firearm regulation. It turns into nothing more than a flame war with one group is screaming "Heil Jesus", another is masterbating to pictures of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, and the final group is nothing more than a bunch of homosexual French Muslims who drive Volvo's and can't be trusted.

How can you seriously believe in young-earth creationism?

Regardless of the fossil record, you can see evolution all around you right now. There are several lizard species that have been observed to evolve divergently. People from africa have darker skin (more sun protection) with skin getting lighter the farther north you go (more vitamin D absorption). Dolphins and sharks are getting progressively similar in convergent evolution.

*sigh*. Again, I'm actually fairly religious. I believe there has got to be somebody behind all of this, because it's too astronomically improbable to be chance. I wouldn't be surprised if some divine being planned evolution. That being said, that isn't a reason to be blind to the fact that evolution clearly exists.

I thought this, as a debate, ended a couple of decades after Darwin, jeez.

    Huh?
does it matter, we're here anyways. Why sweat the small stuff, in the end somebody will get it right and the rest of the world will tell him he's wrong anyway. By the way, if man came from the apes, why aren't there smarter apes out there. Don't they Evolve as well? :notsure:

I counter that with teeth! :D

The smart apes were eaten by the evolving dolphin sharks....

a dalmation is a dog. a poodle is a dog. a beagle is a dog.

...........all the different species of lizards are still just lizards. It's simple really.

I don't see evolution all around me at all....sorry. I see people that have always been people.

It depends if intelligence helps. For us, it did. Clearly certain species are doing well at their intelligence level.

I'll give you an example: snakes and mice.

Snakes are dumb as rocks. Seriously, it's ashame that they kill something with 100x their brainpower when they eat a mouse.

Mice, on the other hand, are fairly smart. Certain rats can be trained.

The smarter snakes didn't do much better. The life of a snake is to eat a mouse, crawl into it's hole, digest, and avoid predators. Predators are relatively rare for a lot of species: snakes don't offer a lot of meat and a lot of them are tough to tangle with, so it isn't worth it. None of what a snake does to survive and procreate is really aided by intelligence.

Their prey, OTOH, gains a lot from intelligence in terms of ability to hide from several persistent predators, including hawks, snakes, felines, etc etc. They're warm-blooded, so they need to be smart enough to be able to build a nest for warmth, yada yada.

I meant that lizards have changed over time as biologists have been studying them.

Why do snakes have vestigial legs? What about legless lizards? You're saying God designed everything with vestigial organs just to confuse us?

I personally think God created alot of things to confuse us. How fun would it be if we started on this rock, and knew everything?

Clearly a divine joke makes a lot more sense than lizards with smaller legs having an advantage at burrowing in the ground, thus having the species breed towards smaller and eventually no legs. Yup. I need to get back to work.

exactly!! Thank you. You proved my point. They are still lizards. No evolution into anything else. Lizards are still lizards.

Have you ever seen a person born without a leg, or arm? Are they not a person any longer?

Have you seen the family that has the hair all over their body, and they have children with hair all over their bodies. Are they still people? Is that evolution?
