I'm wondering what people have done to first gen tacoma's beyond just a standard alarm system where the horn starts beeping and nobody pays any attention. I have an '02 like that but the only time it went off was when I manually pulled up the lock when the window was down. I guess the idea was if somebody broke the window then opened the door. I had somebody break the extra cab window once, reach in and grab some stuff - alarm never went off.

HERE'S what I want to do.... I always run the side window deflectors, you know the rainguard things that allow you to have your window down a little bit. I usually keep my windows cracked to keep the cab from getting hot. I've considered that somebody might try fucking with that in the home despot parking lot here in ghetto-ville. I want to put a motion sensor that rolls up the power windows. That way when the alarm goes off some jackass is struggling to get his hand out of the window.

Anyone else have a scheme they've implemented?

Oh and also a hidden ignition kill switch just in case a thief knows how to drive a manual transmission. I read once about a guy wiring up an ignition coil from a model T ford (cathode to chassis), trespasser completes the circuit. A bit extreme, but maybe a variation of this involving a metal shifter knob if somebody got that far.

lol razor blade topped windows then? A lot of people have concurred the only real way is to shut off the fuel somehow and doing so in a way that would be extremely difficult for a thief to undo. I'm thinking a lock box with a valve that shuts off the fuel flow, which can bite you in the end since it could fail on you when you need it to actually work out in the middle of nowhere. Even this will be only a temporary setback for a pro and a flatbed will trump every anti-theft device short of a detonating alarm system that incinerates the truck.

One system I used for security when sleeping in my camper shell is tying a ratchet strap to the inside door knobs or window latches that can't be locked from the outside to a tie down in the bed so no one can open the door while I'm sleeping. That's all I got beyond your creative methods lol

That is fantastic, I've thought about making a similar device for the shifter on my jeep. Somebody suggested installing a detachable steering wheel so you just take that with you if you want. Problem is airbag, cruise etc... Unless you don't have/want those.

I'm a gambling man, insurance is cheap and ACV payout on these trucks is still reasonably high.

Don't you need full coverage for that? I'm poor.

Maybe because we don't have a ton of meth heads or illegals running around, but full cover is so dirt cheap in ND. I'm paying $42 and change a month

There is a few trade offs: The first is the single women here are ugly as a dumpster at slaughter house. The weather eats Tacomas for breakfast

Move to Los Angeles - you won't have those two problems. You won't have cheap insurance though

What about The Don? Can he operate a manual transmission?

This is freak'n awesome!! I used to be a wildland firefighter and operated pumper trucks. This would have been great to have doing prescribed fires. Could have ignited and held all in one show without leaving the cab.

I saw a Picture once much like this where the owner had chain links welded to the two floor shifters and a lock locking them together.

You would need something that would not be a lot of trouble to turn on to disable the truck.

    Battery disconnect
    Hidden fuel pump switch
    The club

More long term, leaving it up to the cabin.

Take the rear drive shaft slip part out ( mark so it goes back into same spot and 4 bolts)

    Battery removal

    Igniter removal

    Wheel removal

Possible to put a lock or chain through the u joint in the steering ?

The problem with that shifter lock is it's easy to get a saw on it. I use a steering wheel lock that I know is easily defeated, but it is harder to get a saw on if that's the thiefs only tool. Unlikely though. Can't stop a thief, you can only slow them down...
