I have lived all over the Los Angeles area and trust me if it's not bolted down around here, it's walking. Truck was stolen from my driveway, 7 ft away from a bedroom window and I live 2 blocksblocks outside beverly hills. Your not safe anywhere. They found the truck 4 months later in backers field with 5 other trucks. It was all still in one piece, only had step rails changed to a different color and put a tx sticker on the bed sides.

Only thing I lost was 10k on depreciation and most of my work tools, total of about 12,500. Only a few sentimental items I can never replace, but the truck did net a million dollars in that 10 years so we will call it even.

I think it starred in the model years 2014 2015, not sure if was just a package toyota offered in certain regions. There are smarter people on here that can answer that. I wouldn't want to pass off incorrect information. Would have to get the shit umbrella out:crapstorm:

I think the TX sticker gives the truck 20 more horsepower

So how about stories of people who have had the satisfaction of somebody trying to jack their shit and failing miserably somehow? Now those are the kinds of stories I want to play out.

Security is security, 1st Gen, 2nd, or 3rd makes no difference to me anyway. I look at everything pretty much to learn as much as I can and maybe adapt it over if it isn't straight forward useable.

I always assumed later vehicles are harder to steal but really don't know. Anyway, I always liked thinking I was a little more savvy mechanically with my own rig and could make it damn hard on any average thief if I wanted to.

No they are just as easy to steal. I do not have a key fob, I have a regular key. Key fob can be cloned or by using a jumper if yours is not kept in a Faraday cage. I like having an actual key. I will be doing a kill switch once the electrical bugs are out of the 3rd gen and I can see a clear way to do it. Hopefully with a little supervision from some body a tad more experienced than my rookie ass.

Don't go messin' with those wires man. You do that on a 3rd gen and it's liable to drive by wire your ass off a cliff.

Loved that movie. The funny thing is, all of those automotive behaviors really would be possible with modern technology without demonic possession. Kinda kills the intrigue.

I would like to have such intimate knowledge of my vehicle that instead of merely opening the driver door, getting in and turning a key in the ignition, I would deactivate the perimeter sensor with my sunglasses, brush the underside of the fender to pause the threat response system, open the door using focused retina match sensing, clear the vapor recognition phase sensing to gain driver control and automatically start the engine using testicular modulation.
Then, having safely initiated operation, proceed on given motorway to nearest Circle K to procure 44 oz Big Gulp and value size pack of Cheetos.
