Agreed - ever see Creepshow 1&2? They were short stories and some things I think King wrote just for the second one. George Romero produced them.

I liked his movies. Land of the Dead was a cool way to end the series to me - another Dennis Hopper movie lol

Oh, don't think I caught that one. Something about return or revenge - the fourth one in the 90's I didn't like. gonna have to revisit that.

weird the resurgence of the zombie genre. the mindless horde overwhelming the rational on some blind quest for unholy sustenance. seems totally irrelevant to today's issues.

Yeah. I used to be into horror and zombie stuff until the real world seemed more scary and intense.

We had a work truck that was parked outside all of the time and got stolen once. After that we rewired the cigarette lighter circuit into the ignition circuit. You plugged in our modified phone charging cord and the truck started and you could remove the cig charger plug.

No one would imagine it was "anti-theft" protected because the starter would still spin. The ignition circuit itself was disabled.

that's just it though, if you can observe it metaphorically maybe you can understand it in some tangential way. I think it comes down to basic human nature and whether you believe it is inherently good and incorruptible or prone to self preservation above any morality

Enter the addict's way of thinking. Anything is within the basic parameters of self-preservation. I think this may have a lot to do with Romero's vision as it coincided with the vietnam era heroin epidemic.

Yeah, survival is an interesting vehicle for these kinds of conflicts. I hadn't watched any ultra violent things in years and then my roommate got me into the Walking Dead. At first I watched it just to be nice and humor him. Eventually he and I had a good time watching it. When people would say that it was "too violent" for them, I understood where they were coming from. I liked it because of the struggle for survival.

I liked that show for a while but it seemed to miss on the nod to its predecessors like Romero who really had something deeply political and social to explore there.

Still it rides pretty well. I equate much of my daily experience to the zombie dynamic. I am constantly dealing with people who are addled in some way, through poverty and lack of education or substance abuse. They are mostly willing to sidestep morality or the welfare of others for their own immediate needs.

Yeah I ended up watching the first three seasons and felt like it got repetitive. As much as zombie stuff is fun - I immediately started thinking about what it would be like long term post zombie apocalypse when Land of the Dead came out. The statistic for that movie was 300k zombies to every 1 human. I thought about what the world would be like and it came to me that it would be more or less aboriginal. Natural water and food sources would become the determining factor in survival.

Thought it would be interesting to have a story about someone that long after the apocalypse. Always thought it would be cool to have a guy who kept his zombified brother chained up where ever he went, hoping for a cure to someday come and having to feed him animals and other stuff to try to keep him from dying.

Its kinda unfortunate and something I need to work on but I do believe there is a natural instinct which prevails when people are guided mostly by necessity and relieved from fear of punishment.

I'd hate to ever bear witness to its worst scenarios. I have a very hard time getting into confined spaces with crowds. But then again who would consider this normal? maybe not something I need to work on...

This is pretty damn brilliant by the way. Who would ever conceive that you had to plug a device into the ciggy lighter to enable the ignition circuit.

The only thing that I can think about now-a-days is a thief whose cell phone is dead and decides to plug in his car charger before he hotwires your truck... But assuming it had to be a special thing plugged into the socket, that wouldn't work anyway. Besides a thief having tons of time to trace the ignition wires and find what was going on and then bypassing the socket, that sounds like a wonderful idea.

    YUP...

The third level of moral thinking is one that Kohlberg felt is not reached by the majority of adults. Its first stage (stage 5) is an understanding of social mutuality and a genuine interest in the welfare of others. The last stage (stage 6) is based on respect for universal principle and the demands of individual conscience. While Kohlberg always believed in the existence of Stage 6 and had some nominees for it, he could never get enough subjects to define it, much less observe their longitudinal movement to it.

I find myself bewildered as to where any nominees would be found in my past, recent and ongoing experience. I gotta say I may not even consider myself one.

    At any rate though;

You don't fuck with another man's vehicle. It's just against the rules. pulp fiction

Ah - k mannnn... so here za deal. this security thing is wearin' me down, I mean you'd have to be some kinda jack-boot camo geek thug to think about this shit all the time. I just spent the better part of a day metal fabbing my custom tonneau cover so shitheads couldn't mess with my gear while I was in walmart taking a dump or parked at a trailhead. Who thinks like this?

Well most people that can't afford to replace stolen things and are cognizant enough to think about what could happen. That said I have my complete interior minus the driver's seat in my camper shell that has no handles on it at the moment so someone could just steal it - I need to put them on though - just been busy lately. I really liked having a camper shell on my daily driver. It does help in said situations when you can lock stuff up. It doesn't mean it won't get stolen, right, but it won't be easily walked off with at the same time. Keeping stuff out of sight goes a long way too I believe, but some people do look for stuff to steal...
