make sure you don't park next to any fixed objects. i'm sure there is somebody somewhere that will tie up your truck to something and watch you try to drive away...

It's a fairly common thing in Sweden, Finland, and similar (heavy snow areas). Strangely (since it's a good idea), I haven't yet seen it in North America (Canada, Northern USA, etc). The OP's question is the first hint of it.

Anyway, guys attach chains to their tow hooks or similar with the other end hung from the top of their grill guards or similar. When the vehicle (from semi trucks to SUV's) bulldozes snow, it's easier and quicker to get to the chains than digging in the cold snow for the tow hooks. Afterwards, the loose ends of the chains (sometimes one, sometimes both) are attached to the tow chains, straps, or winches on another vehicle. The usual result is a quick recovery.

The OP said he wanted it for appearance alone. In colder climates, I suspect it's a growing part of the overall "off-road look."

Sorry OP, I'm more of a function over flair kind of guy. Put the recovery chain in your bed, or under the seat until needed.

If you have nothing to add to the OP's question, except a dick head remark, you have 2 option:
    #1. Move on
#2. Post up, and see what happens. Trust me. option #2 will not be one you like.
