Same here ... I'd much rather put up the mice problems, rather than having to deal with meth-heads trying to steal my tailgate, etc etc...

Biggest issue i've had to deal with live in a rual town was a bunch of tanked up kids kicking in mail boxes and putting chit in your gas tanks.

There's a price to be paid for everything I guess .. Some prices more than others. I don't have to worry about a mailbox .. Have to go to the post office 6 miles away (Which I don't care, because I stop to get beer anyway.. LOL!) ...And I'd assume that there are locking gas caps for our rigs? PITA, but if I thought I needed one, would look into it.
On the other hand, I had to plow 11" of snow this morning, just to get to the road that the county plows here.. (My neighbors love me .. LOL!!) So... It's all a give-n-take thing..

Keep in mind, food is what attracts mice an rats. Place a Costco pizza in your cab for the drive home and you basically have created the ultimate mouse magnet. Rodents love cheese.

Had the same problem with my wife’s car... Country life amiright?
One had lived in the glovebox for some time, chewing up paper work and stuff. Eventually died somewhere in the back of the car.
I ripped out all of the rear interior panels trying to track down the smell. I got close, but apparently he was in between the body panel where it welds to the body structure. I tried everything short of popping spot welds and ripping the car apart!
    Nasty bastards!

Yeah, it drives ya nuts sometimes. The wife had a Corolla about 20 years ago... Opened the trunk one day and there was a big nest sitting right in the middle. Most of it was from the fiberglass insulation on the walls in the garage. So I knew they were getting in from the outside. I tore the whole trunk apart.. All the felt/fabric lining, everything, looking for 'How'd you get IN ya little bastards.' ...
I couldn't find a single gap anywhere where it might be obvious. There were some 'suspicious' spots where I thought 'Mmmm ... Maybe ...) So I stuffed a bunch of steel wool in any nooks and crannies I thought 'Maybe' ... I thought I had it bullet-proof.
    Damn mice still got in.
The only good thing was it was just the trunk and not under the hood where there might have been some major damage.

Wow, that is crazy............did the car sit for very long for them to make the nest?

At times it did, but it's hard to define 'how long is long' ya' know? She's a teacher, so the time I found the nest was after her rig was parked for about a week and a half during the school 2 week Xmas vacation. And I probably wouldn't have found it, had she not have had to take one of our dogs to the vet and I got the 'dog blanket' out of the trunk.
But also, when I first got my new Taco in Aug ... Still warm outside.... It sat in the shop for a week and I just happen to pop the hood for some reason and found a 'starter nest' going right under the master cylinder already. I was shocked.
So I guess one could say that 'how long' ... Doesn't take very long.
I've been checking every few days now, as it's winter and cold. And I've been spraying the 'Rodent Defense' stuff under the hood every two weeks now. Cheap insurance..

Exactly right on "time frames", no consistency..............I was checking really everyday since I was usually in the garage for something daily, then we had a cold snap and wasn't really out for anything, then that is when I found the stuff on front floor mat, probably only couple of days

LOL! Yeah, those fake owls are good for ... Decorations. They look cool on top of a phone pole, but not much good for much.
Like the little electronic noise-makers, or those spinning 'clickity-click' sunflowers you stick in the yard trying to keep moles/gophers away... Basically decorations.
My electronic mouse-squeakers I keep under the hood of two different rigs work well .. But man those things are like 110 db's ... LOL!
For the yards .. front back ... I've got a German Shepard and a Husky that are pretty good at killing critters

I’ve mounted full on assault counter-measures!
I’ve lined the perimeter of the garage with old school spring loaded mouse traps topped with peanut butter as well as put out the Tomcat mouse killer poison bait boxes.
We’ve not seen any dead mice from the poison, but they have been eating it, so I guess that’s just a matter of time.
The old school spring traps are working like a champ, though! I average AT LEAST one mouse per night.
It’s a P.I.T.A. to keep them baited and set, but as long as they’re killing the little bastards I don’t mind!

LOL! Sounds like yer going full-on Ted Nugent on the rodents! LOL!!!
Yes, the peanut butter ... There's not a rodent that can resist that stuff.
I hear ya ... The constant 'up-keep' is a PITA ... But consider the alternative...

The unfortunate side effect is that dogs like it, too...
We’ve had a couple of accidental discharges, lol.

Well.... I used to have a chipmunk problem in my garden.
Place the Owl in there and zero chipmunk issues.
People do not have success because they leave the Owl in one location.
The key is to move the Owl in different locations so the pests do not get used to seeing it on one position.
