I’ve worked in telecom for the last 35 years. Back in the late 80’s my district manager at Bell Atlantic came tearing through our office carrying a “portable” phone (looked like a fishing tackle box with a handset about the size of a brick attached) raving how he was able to have a call handed off between cell sites in downtown Philadelphia. I recall thinking how stupid it was to have a phone in a car, how pretentious must you be to think you need something like that?
Now I’ve been in the wireless industry for 25 years and it’s proven to be the smartest career move I could ever have made. The industry has been more or less oblivious to economic downturns. Cell phones are ubiquitous. Think about it, people will forego meals to pay for service, even some homeless people have cell phones. I guess my district manager was right to be excited. I now have in my pocket a device that has more compute power than the entire Apollo moon mission, can call anywhere in the world and access the sum total of human knowledge. And I use it to do shit like this. Go figure.

That's gonna be f-n SWEET. I can't wait till I can get to a point where we can afford some land and build a shop. In the meantime I just hide out in my buddy's shop. :D

Pole barns are a different deal. Supports are set then the concrete. Would have said they are a good, cheap alternative 1 year ago. Now you are better off digging a hole and using the old sod for a roof.

Just after 6 AM when I left it was 63 degrees out. Hopefully it will be humid after the lightening storm we had.

Does the support post have to be set on concrete footings for strength, rigidity to support the roof weight or storms.

I always see some kind of footing or something. It different than what I been taught.

If metal supports are used, does it rust?

If wood support are used, does it rot?

Where I live it's against code to install supports like this. People I know found out the hard way.
