Looking for some guidance from those who know more than I do about Tacomas. This probably encompasses 99% of the population!
I am looking for a compact toolbox that is better quality than the Kobalt boxes that Lowes sell, but I do not want to spend a fortune. Budget would likely be under $400
I would prefer black and all I keep in the box (plastic) I have now are some tiedowns and bungee cords and a small tarp. It would be good to be able to slide lumber etc under the box as I have the 5ft bed.
    Any advice appreciated

A few additions to make me feel cool.
UWS low pro is the only way to go.

Get a Weather Guard. It'll probably blow your budget, but there is no comparison between a Weather Guard box and the other brands. Save up a bit more and get a quality box. I had mine for 4 years, never leaked, and still looks as good as the day I bought it. I don't have any pictures with the tailgate down. I've since moved onto a canopy or else id snap some photos for you and measure but there was probably about 5-6" between the bottom of the box and the bed. You can get this model in flat black or gloss black.

Here's a few pics of mine mounted to my Longbox for reference.

Keep an eye on craigslist. I snagged a Toyota box for $80 and there's another one by me for $200. They are well built and nice!
