My son crossed bat terminals when jump starting. Truck electrical completely dead. Is there a particular fuse or relay that should be checked?

Welcome to TW! Your Alt. Fuse is shot. I cant remember what the fuse rating is, but its around 100 AMP. Also, pull each fuse to check for others. Hopefully, thats the only damage done.

You're lucky that's all that happened. I've seen a battery explode when doing that, luckily nobody was standing near it. The acid ate through the plastic headlight mounts almost instantly, the headlight fell right out.

Yes indeed, very lucky, I have seen this happen as well.
    Very dangerous blasting acid everywhere.

Check the fuse / switch right on the battery terminal.....when I was messing around with my stereo everything went dead and all I had to do was reset the switch on the battery.

I did the same thing on a Ford Ranger and fried everything. I hope the technology on the Tacomas are better and would prevent this. Can get quite expensive to fix.

Is your son a dumb blonde female? If I got lucky enough to only burn a fuse, my Dad would have beat my ass. If I fried the system, I shudder to think what he would have done.

Did your son attempt to crank the starter (i.e., turn the key to 'on' position) while the battery terminals were cross-wired?

Start with the 120A Alternator fuse in the engine bay fuse / relay box.

While you're in the engine bay fuse box, it would be a good idea to check for overall signs of 'damage' and maybe check the individual smaller fuses.

Then you're either refusing to think it's funny out of principle, have no sense of humor, or are just plain stupid.

Your mama so fat she is your tacoma :D...
That's the idea!:) Not a very good joke but you're on the right track. Perhaps the above option #2 is the correct answer

I blew my 120/130 alternator fuse last year, along with a few 5 and 10 amp fuses.

    As stated above;

    - take a photo of the fuse box before you start poking around.

-take them out and check them one at a time.

    -stay calm

PM me for details if you have to replace you 120/130 amp fuse, as its bolted in...

If you have an ohm meter, save your self some trouble and check your fuses with it. This was you dont have to mess with pulling them all out. Should only take about 3 minutes or so to check all of them.
