    Gym Jones.

    Congrats on the MUs!

You can put size on doing crossfit it just depends if you're focusing on metcon or Oly lifts (such as myself). Kahlipa and most other powerhouses used to do more BB before crossfit so they were already big. Not saying I'm the biggest guy but I've been able to put size on in the right places and lose it in the midsection. Kind of a close minded statement IMHO. All my lifts have gone up since doing crossfit, not like when I was doing BB. Another thing, the guys at the games were making 505DL look easy and they're failry big. I think where most of the misconception comes in; are shit mags like muscle and fitness or mens health. They all talk about getting leaned out because they really don't know as much about it. I think some of the reason people progress the way they do, and even little guys move big numbers is due to the fact form and function is emphasized so much. Anyone can pic up a BB rag and do some tri kickbacks but to really benefit you need trainers (like at a crossfit box, there all the time to critique). It's not the end all be all, but there's a reason it's becoming more mainstream. People want functionality, not an image

If you want to focus on getting huge then you have do do more of a powerlift. Now I will agree that doing a one hour Crossfit class a day wont get you in body building shape, but neither will powerlifting. You have to spend 4hrs a day or more in the gym. Now if you spent that much time in a crossfit gym you would see better results in your overall performance, not just your looks.

^^^ 4 hours in the gym...? Are you serious? The body begins to deteriorate itself after about an hour and a half. Our bodies go into desperation mode after too long and begin to go after muscle, which stores the most energy. Just over an hour is the perfect amount of time to spend in the gym, anything more will have no effect, if not negative effects.

A lot of your bodybuilders spend about 4 hrs a day in the gym. I watched something on T.V. that said that, by no means am I telling someone to go spend 4 hrs in the gym.

Are they splitting up their workouts or something then? I work out quite a bit and have done a lot of homework in the last couple years, and it all points to about a hour 15 minute workout... I figure they must lift hard with decent sized breaks in between sets or something. I dunno, just doesn't quite add up to me you know? But if anyone would know how to "Bulk up" it would be those guys...

The major BBers that are in the gym for 4hrs are also not there for metcon. Most of the lifts are slow and precise as opposed to explosive and dynamic. The often eat or drink shakes whilst they sculpt thier guns in the mirrors. All in all nothing against those guys, I used to want to be freakishly huge too. We all workout for a common goal and that is to better ourselves. We do it in different ways is all.

Diet? Pfft. Dieting is for girls....

It's just so damn hard to eat right to get that toned sculpted form. I've been stuck at the same fat % for a while now and can't seem to get it lower.

Why am I starting it again...? Well, to tell you the truth I really want to do Crossfit mainly because working out with other people is 10x better than by yourself. I can't do said Crossfit because out here in Montana there is only 2 facilities, both of which are not near where I live. I have already done P90X once a year and a half ago, with great results, but since then have lost a little bit of that form (mainly due to very poor eating habits). I am now starting again because I have hit a plateau in my workout regimen. I have yet to make a solid gain in about 2 months here, and it seems to be that the only reason I am working out now is to keep from getting sore and overly tired when I start up the P90X... And I started up that thread because I know how hard it is to stay motivated, especially with something like the X. People tend to get burned out after about the first 2-3 weeks and get discouraged, as I did even. Keeping tabs on each other will help us keep going. I am trying to get my body to make some gains, because it is stuck in a stagnant state. I also am working on a fishing boat over the summer in Alaska, and any extra strength and/or mass is helpful. Is that what you were looking for?

We tried to do P90X at our station. WE mainly tried the yoga and stretching and holy hell, I never thought I would cry from yoga or stretching. P90x is insane.

    x2

I don't get home until 8pm after being at the gym and by then I'm tired and have zero motivation to even begin to cook. Even if I did have the energy, I still hate it. Need to be a millionaire are so I can hire someone to cook for me.

When I got out I try to eat good. Salads and what not, but it gets so hard when you have to cook and then when you go to cook there is limited options.

Haha, what i love about my work is when we cook we have unlimited options. I hate cooking but at least i'll be able to eat right.

Pretty much. I was just curious because of your previous post in here then I saw your thread. Sucks that there aren't any boxes by you though. I think you could really benefit with what you're doing with crossfit as opposed to P90X. P90X is marketed by a company called beach body IIRC. Doesn't sound like a company concerned with functionality as opposed to having some sculpted guns and abs to cruise for bitches while they ride the wave that crossfit started with muscle confusion. And besides 90 days, that's it? I knew you could just start over but I feel like there's better avenues than some dude's get rich program. Same thing with that insanity shit. I'd say 9 times out of 10 people get these because they don't want to work hard and keep at it, thus making these programs explode. Then again crossfit isn't the end all be all either as I stated earlier. Kudos to you for getting in shape and you know the importance that a diet plays in exercise

With that said, have you looked into Rougue fitness? I don't know your budget or if you have a garage, but there's lots of people that get the gym in a box and just set up shop in thier house. I know I wish I could.

    www.rouguefitness.com or www.crossfitsocal.com
The second is my gym but our owner has a lot of say in development w/ Rougue and I believe they try to offer a discount. Either way good luck dude and if I came off as an elitist, it was not the intention. Like I said you sound like you know your stuff. Hope all works out for you and definately start a thread when you get up to AK!

Hey Toucan, no worries. I am by no means an expert when it comes to this stuff, as I am still very much in the learning process too. I just get my fix from helping others help themselves when it comes to fitness. As you will probably see when I post my before pictures in my thread, I am no big musclehead and at this point in time am not in excellent shape by any means... As far as the 90 days thing goes, yeah it definitely is tough. The program leaves you with no direction whatsoever other than to do the program over again essentially, which nobody really wants to do. It actually became the start of me really trying to improve my body though, and I was doing great until I hit this wall again here.

I actually do have a full home gym (well, my father does and we live pretty close), but I just don't use it very often. I like to work out in an environment with other people if I can. When I get out of college here and more than likely move somewhere a little bigger, I will join Crossfit for sure. But for now, I am trying to make due with what I got ya know? It's tough driving 20 miles to school every morning haha.

As far as the Alaska forum idea goes, I will see what I can do, but no guarantees. You gotta figure that I will be on a boat the ENTIRE 6 or so weeks that I am there. I can try and do some kind of before and after thing maybe, we shall see.

If anyone in this thread or forum is interested in getting the P90X program (free of charge of course) itself or even my progress through this second iteration of the program which is set to begin March 1, feel free to get a hold of me. I am sure that the other guys doing this alongside me would be happy to show you their progress too. Have a good night and keep the Crossfit fire burning for when I finally make it there.

    -Colton
