Today's WOD consisted of pull ups. First time destroying my hands doing pull ups. :(

It hurts to wash my hands now.

got to trim those calluses down... also I bought a pair of grips from rogue that have helped.

one of my weak spots is my shoulders and yesterday we did strict press
my old PR was only 115 pounds today I got 140 pounds I was pretty happy with that. strict presses suck it is so hard to not get that little extra pop with the legs.

Yesterdays WOD was a 10min AMRAP of 400m runs. I was able to get 6 of them. Pretty stoked to get a mile and a half done. But I was beat after. I was lying on the ground for 20 minutes after.

Yesterday we worked weighted pull ups. Was able to a strict pull up with 65lbs of plates on the belt. Then our WOD was death by pull ups. I got through the round of 14 then stopped. I was starting to tear on my right hand so I just stopped. Easily had a few more rounds in me.

I know a lot, and I mean a lot of high class athletes who have chronicly injured themselves doing it. Back, shoulders, necks, slipped discs etc. A ton of attention needs to go into technique before going all out. which is counter-intuitive to cross fit always changing workouts. and by high class I mean pro downhillers, 5.12+ climbers, pro kayakers, mtn bikers...

Hey welcome to TW.. I'm on the new side too. What's your personal suggestion on how to start Crossfit? Already have a year membership elsewhere so trying to get ideas whether CF is going to be right for me to do.

You forgot the decimal points. I fixed that for you :D. How the heck do you do 100, 200 and 300 of each? That will kill me.
I am trying to stay in shape but I am not able to get any where near that.

It depends on your personal fitness level. I would recommend going by and checking out one of your local CrossFit boxes, visit with some of the coaches there. Most of them have some sort of "On Ramp" program to get you used to the Olympic lifting and high intensity. I used to do a bodybuilding style workout, and was getting pretty bored with it. I decided to go check out CrossFit and never looked back!

Haha! You can split it up into 10 rounds like that, which is what I did. The first time I did Murph, we had to do 100, 200, 300, and the last mile was horrible! Legs felt like jello after 300 squats.

Best way to split up murph is by doing 33 rounds of 3 pullups, 6 pushups, 9 squats, with your first round being 4 pullups, 8 pushups, 12 squats.

provides enough of a break between movements that it's not so bad.
