A buddy and I have stock suspension and are going to try the back road. His is 14 sport 4wd mine is 13 off-road with diff lock. Hear there are some big rocks so a bit worried about clearance and damage as these are our daily drivers but would love to have someone experienced with the trail join us. We are meeting at sportsmans warehouse in the morning at 8. We are taking our toddlers so just looking for some safe fun. Assuming I come back wishing I had a little extra clearance - any suggestions for something affordable that doesn't impact my daily drivability?

As long as you don't try to take the big obstacles (there's bypasses) then your truck's should be fine. Last time I drove up there was about 6 months ago so there has been some rain since then but I would think you'll make it no problem. I'd join you but I'm going up to Pinal Peak tomorrow morning for my truck's first outing. Have a good time and post some pics!

Me an @XPOTRPR went through box canyon last month, its a fun trail lots to explore. On our way out we saw a lot of big horn sheep in the canyon. whenever you go on either trail post up I would be in

Yes it is the AllTrails app. It is a decent app, for finding trails.

Good news is we made it back... bad news is my inexperience is gonna cost me a new drive shaft and potentially the transfer case housing due to a small crack. Definitely don't recommend going into Prescott National Forest with your daily driver, a toddler, or stock. On the bright side, I was totally impressed with how well this beast did through all the obstacles before my clearance just didn't leave room for mistakes or a wrong line. Gonna be a while until I can afford to risk playing this rough again. Lesson - don't assume that video or others experience will accurately reflect what the trail is like - the videos I watched didn't show the rock I hit so high. Erosion, etc. can change the trail over night. ‍♂️

Glad you made it out ok! Sucks about your truck. What area "bit" you on the CK trail? Was is coming out of the creek, after the miners? Not directly in view of them, but further down (up) the trail, last creek crossing, or the rock directly after that? @13SCOR

It was near orobelle I think. It was climbing out of the mine area. There was a sharp right turn with cliff on left and wall on right. The rock was in middle with another one on left edge. Instead of putting my left tire between them I tried my left tire on middle rock but it still was too big to clear. Sucks. Went and gathered boulders to help my buddy make it and he put his left tire between them and only scratched frame a bit.

I want to say it's the 3rd one because the rockwall on right seems familiar and the rock on left seems the right size, but that would mean a boulder fell in the middle of road so I guess it was the first two and either the camera angle is deceiving or the erosion this spring made it worse. Not sure. Once I saw the gear oil leaking I rushed out of there. IMG_1971.jpg IMG_1972.jpg IMG_1973.jpg

To me the first two pics are the same rock I was thinking of, after the last creek crossing, 2nd rock. I could be wrong. Either way I could see how that could do some damage. Good thing you were close to end!

Btw, if you pull the case and nothing else is wrong (gears, sensors, ect) I can weld the aluminum for you. Probably alot cheaper than a new case.
